I went for the PDK I spent ALOT of time mooting over the manual and have test driven both thankfully.

Up here in the north part of Lincolnshire we have roads to die for, traversing beautiful countryside, which is the best kept secret in England, which is why Evo et al use the area for test reporting.

Personally I prefer the tactility of a manual, whilst acknowledging that PDK is faster for track use & more practical when you live in a busy road traffic environment.

hey, I'm new to this so please be kind.
Recently ordered (and now soon to be built) the new Cayman gts. I opted for sapphire blue, black exterior pack, SS and partially "20 black alloys from the carrera s.
Being looking online to try and find some photos of people with the same spec to see how it will look etc matched up together (make sure the blue and black offset well)
Haven't had much success....would be interested if any ones got this spec sharing photos.
Thanks in advance
Hi Trotmant
Help is at hand, I have just taken delivery of said Sapphire Blue GTS avec black partially painted wheels (sadly sans SS though) - to me its the "mut's nuts" or the "puppy's privates" - but I would say that having brought the thing, wouldn't I?
Its also a really good drive & here I speak with some knowledge having owned 944s, Boxsters, & numerous iterations of the 911, from 911Sc up to & including GT3s x2 & 991: for this country the GTS is spot on. There you are, those are my credentials, what I will do tomorrow is take a couple of photos & upload them for you, if I can that is.
Rob
Wicked thanks Rob would be great to see your car. Instinct tells me it's a good mix but until you see it you never know. Had before a gen 1 Cayman s but after blowing the engine twice I had to make this one slightly special! Looking forward to the snaps
Hi Trotmant,
I have photos but the upload feature of this forum freezes when I try to attach pics. So if you e-mail me, details in my profile I'll send them by that method.

Upload them to Photobucket, you then get [IMG] tags that you just copy and paste into a post on here and Et Voila!

That would be useful if you can get them on here, Sorry Rob the joys of the PH process is I can't email for 24hours since reg. Genuis process design.
Or send me an email (assuming here the process works) and I will reply with my personal email address. thanks.
Hi Sarnie,
Many thanks for your advice & help but PH wouldn't allow me to upload any images whatsoever, kept freezing on me, so had to revert to good old hotmail in the end. With a bit of luck Tom (Trotmant) will now be in receipt of the photos he desired by now.
Do you also have one of these wonderful machines? I'm still amazed by how good they are, just shows ultimate speed does not a great car make!!
Cheers

Hi
Anyone know how to reduce photo size (MBs) so I can upload photos easily.
Thanks
Rob
Open the photo in 'Paint' then select resize by 40%...
Turns a 4128 x 2322 3.37MB pic into a 1652 x 929 @ 528kb - much more forum friendly and saves time not having to upload them to PhotoBucket...

Was going to notify you of this thread Liam ... all we need now is Dan
He's probably offline taking a break...........I've been pecking his head on FB for the last few days!!
Hi Trotmant,
No problem, a pleasure to oblige, although I think I am in danger of becoming quite evangelistic about the GTS.
I first test drove the Cayman GTS PDK (my OPC was good enough to arrange a free drive at PEC Silverstone for me (I must be a "valued customer", if there is such a category recognised by Porsche) &.... was not impressed!! On the track, which I have fairly extensive drive time logged, in all types of 911s, the car was somewhat underwhelming - not helped by 'an instructor' who insisted on trying to get me to drive the thing "as if on ice": very off-putting. I'm also old school in that I prefer a manual gearbox for street driving but of course for track, PDK is quicker but so anodyne & un-involving on the road.
I was then persuaded to try a manual Cayman S, again loaned very kindly by the OPC for a few days,.... & it was a revelation! Balanced, involving, aurally superb, relatively comfortable even in sport mode and quite fast enough for everyday usage. On top of which the GTS package is a deal clincher over the S.
To me it's better to be able to drive a car on the public highway at say 8-9 tenths of its potential, as in the GTS - rather than say either of my 997 GT3s which you'd lucky to drive at 6 tenths & above safely for frustratingly short periods of time. Add to that, the mis-match in my skill levels in comparison to that of the GT3 & one finds one has spend a shed load of money on a car that laughs at your puny efforts all the time - unless you give it the nuts on track. The car becomes a "poser's pouch" & personally if I wished to impress pre-pubescent boys I'd buy a Ferrari.
To conclude, the GTS suits my everyday drive needs & matches my skill levels better than any of the GT3s & 911s I've owned.
I hope the above doesn't sound too much like a rant but I am getting more smiles per mile in the GTS than I ever got from any of the numerous 911s I've been lucky enough to own.
(a modified part of a reply sent privately to another PH subscriber - hope you don't mind me putting this on the forum, Gary??)
Rob
Rob. Not at all. I went for the PDK I spent ALOT of time mooting over the manual and have test driven both thankfully. In the end I opted for the PDK based on
1. Better fuel economy
2. In sport plus it was so rapid it felt exciting (although I prefered having it in manual PDK)
3. The ease of not being on the clutch in m25 traffic around surrey!
I still have until tomorrow cop to change my mind. Although I think just like the colours I will probeberly stick with my instinct and keep blue black and PDK. Although I will conced the manual box is a superb as standard.
I also picked the sports suspension (ie analog dampers), the profile it gives the car IMO just looks so much better.
I've often admired the 911 from a distance but I agree given the new 981 and GTS spec unless I was in the market for a GT3 I wouldn't go there now given performance and look the Cayman now offers.
This said the Cayman GT4 if true could be my next car in 3yrs!!!
Hi Trotmant,
Hey, we are all individuals with different agendas and subject to subtle nuanced influences - and the dreaded M25 is a biggy for sticking with PDK - the beauty of Porsches is that we are fortunate enough to be able to specify our own individual specifications to suit our bespoke needs and wants.
Up here in the north part of Lincolnshire we have roads to die for, traversing beautiful countryside, which is the best kept secret in England, which is why Evo et al use the area for test reporting. If we have a traffic snarl-up of more than 5 mins it's on the local television channel as major news and causes nose bleeds in those affected! We also have the mini-Nurburgring, that is Cadwell Park and the little skate board venue that is Blyton Park, near Gainsborough. We are lucky so & so's.
Enjoy your car in safety, take care,
Rob
Hi RTBO,
Hey! Sorry, I'm not advocating a mass exodus to sunny Lincolnshire (and I'm certainly not a member of the Lincolnshire Tourist Board) but we do have some lovely uncluttered roads traversing the Wolds. Pick any of the B roads from the Gainsborough/S
horpe areas across to the coast or those that go over the Wolds, north to south & you'll find motoring nirvana, but a word of caution we also have some A killer roads deemed to be the most dangerous in the country!
Enjoy your motoring & take care,
Rob
P.s. Wow, just noticed on previewing the above that I've been censored for using the S.c.u.n.t.h.o.r.p.e word. To anyone who knows of the rivalry between the major towns of Lincolnshire that's absolutely priceless!!

That's been the case since the birth of the Interweb ... probably a good job really ... there are nicer parts of Lincolnshire although if you're ever near S
horpe, do visit Normanby Hall if you get chance ...
Thinking about it that's not a bad place to start a meet
Attak Z,
You're right, there's absolutely nothing wrong with S****thorpe, or indeed with any of the Lincolnshire towns, only stereo-typing by the media. In a former life, many moons ago, I worked in the town. Like all northern towns & cities the friendliness factor is up a notch.
Hi Trotmant & Attak Z,
Ooops, Me thinks I've may have sold Lincolnshire too well! To much youthful enthusiasm from a definitely non-youth who should know better.
Joking aside though, a meeting at Blyton Park, between S****thorpe & Gainsborough for a track day/morning, followed by a punt from there up on to the Wolds could be a day well spent.
I know Blyton (a former airbase) is a relatively new venue but if you google it, it advertises track sessions with a provider I can't quite remember the name of. I also seem to think the track season has ended for this year so probably spring 2015 is a realistic target.
If you wish, I'll do a bit of delving & pop the results on here: the more who attend the merrier.
Rob
Hi RBTO,
I'm really sorry I didn't reply to your recent post, I must have completely missed it, please accept my apologies.
As I have said in another post, I would be up for getting details of track sessions at Blyton (maybe even negotiate a closed GTS only session, if at all possible) - plus I could sort out a route around the local area & pub lunch maybe.
Let me know if the above appeals - PM me if you wish,
Rob
Hi RTBO,
Congrats, not too long to wait then. It will be well run-in by the Spring ready for a 'gentle' track session, perhaps? What is your final spec??
Rob
Here you go.
PFH5GJR4
The lightest and fastest combo possible with some precious opt's, not too many.
Sport suspensions
Buckets
PDK
Carrera wheels
I hope to compensate +30kg of PDK with bucket seats and sport suspensions (no PASM parts).
Hi RTBO
.... & you're on a crash diet to shave off a few extra pounds, as well??
End of joking - that's a fine spec, presumably you hope to do a few track sessions. I was sorely tempted by the SS but having had 2 GT3s that shredded front splitters for breakfast, I passed. Personally I prefer the tactility of a manual, whilst acknowledging that PDK is faster for track use & more practical when you live in a busy road traffic environment.
Enjoy your car when it arrives & take care
Rob
Thanks Rob, I'll try to take care of my front spoiler too.
Yes I know, SS was a tough choice, but I know I would have regretted after a couple of month with PASM.
I've driven the SS at the PEC and it was absolutely amazing in terms of handling so at the and was a kind of no brainer for me. Same for buckets, but just tried for couple of min's.
Finally PDK....no doubts at all, too fast and too effective, with huge comfort as side benefit. But just side benefit, the reason for me is gearshift times, so ridiculously fast.
Hi RTBO
You've absolutely no need to justify your spec to anyone, least of all, me. Your specification is an individual choice based on individual needs & wants, after all, its your criteria that matter & in the end, that boils down to choosing whatever floats your croutons.
For example, I'd love the bucket seats but have a young grandchild to transport at times - so there go the seats: plus the traffic calming lumps on the streets of my town are evil, therefore 10mm lower SS is a no-no.
With the 'weight-weeny' spec you have, its made for track sessions but, of course, that may not be part of your remit.
Above all enjoy - that's what we buy the damn things for,
Rob
