And back to the topic, it seems there are definitions by the EU and DOT as to what constitutes what in terms of capacity and weights but I've seen different manufacturers use different components to come up with their published weights they use for marketing.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

The weight quoted in the spec does not explain what exactly went into the calculation of the weight. Does it include fuel, and other consummables necessary to drive the car? What standard equipment is included in the calculation?

POST 2Original post

unladen means just the car and its driver, or what ever that makes it go, which includes fuel. they have a standard spec, the quoted weight should really reflect the car in standard layout. don't know what weight they use for an estimate for a driver tho, might vary for different country, may be more in america (runs away)

POST 3Original post

Does the Porsche spec include 100% fuel or 90% as I have read somewhere else? A full tank of 64 litre fuel would weigh about 46kg.

POST 4Original post

I think the unladen weight mean a standard car with no fuel or driver---please correct me if Im wrong. When I first read about the cayman s in 2005, I was a bit disappointed the car weigh in at 1340kg; just 5kg lighter than a Boxster S . However, when I found out that they had stiffened the structure and got a slightly bigger engine, I sort of feel a bit better paying the extra price. The peformance figures on our handbook (0-100km/h 5.4s 0-160 km/h 11.7) are taken with a standard car with the driver weighing in at 75kg with half tank of 98RON unleaded. Our handbook did state any equipment or different RON will affect the performance. I always use 98RON+ fuel and I weigh 68kg without breakfast. My fuel tank is usually less than half full. I don't think I will have any problems matching those figures even if I hadn't chipped and desnork my car

POST 5Original post

laden means has payload, the driver and fuel are not considered payload, essentially unladen weight is the weight for it to function as a car. not sure about fuel percentage tho, 100% seems like the logical choice but.

POST 6Original post

i checked with the DMV rules, u need a minimum of 5 gallons of fuel in the tank, so i guess its the weight of a standard spec of car + 75kg driver + 5 gallons of fuel also the radiator must be completely filled with coolant, and the engine needs the correct level of oil

POST 7Original post

5 gallons would only be about 19 litre or about 30% full which would weight about 13.5kg. What's DMV by the way?

POST 8Original post

Department of Motor Vehicles, patty and selma works there i get my facts about america from the 'simpsons' the show that isn't affraid to tell it like it is !!!

POST 9Original post

What is the claim for unladen weight? My Cayman S on the SCCA scales with 1/2 tank of gas and NO driver weighed in at 3,024 pounds.

POST 10Original post

V.C. Section 660 - Unladen Weight effective since 1989, hum... might be out dated

POST 11Original post

This is what I've found. Unladen weight, defined by the EU seems to include 90% tank of gas and 75kg of driver + cargo. Without the 75kg, unladen weight (DIN) for the CS is 1350kg for manual and 1390kg for Tip.

POST 12Original post

I learned everything I need to know about China by watching Ultraman.

POST 13Original post

your lieing ... >_< ultraman is my hero, hes as chinese as pirating CDs or using low production value props to shoot films...

POST 14Original post

You're as bad as Dave ... Ultraman originated in Japan and premiered in 1966 (way before you were born) on the Tokyo Broadcasting System. That's Tokyo, Japan which, like Singapore, is NOT in China. Hey Ken, is this stuff extra credit?

POST 15Original post

Not before *I* was born though, I used to watch Ultraman on TV growing up and do the Ultraman stance (hands crossed in the form of a plus sign) when I wanted to zap the bad guys!

POST 16Original post

yeah the crosshand beam is the best !!!! and i'd practice hard everytime a new move is introduced to beat a particular hard guy !!!! haha good times...

POST 17Original post

Ultrawhat, What the hell are you people talking about? If Singapore is not in China, what country is it in? And back to the topic, it seems there are definitions by the EU and DOT as to what constitutes what in terms of capacity and weights but I've seen different manufacturers use different components to come up with their published weights they use for marketing. ie some have luggage some have a passenger some are base cars some are weighed as typically equipped, etc. For what it's worth my car, whose only option are those frivilous floormats weighed in at a whopping 3062 with a full tank.

POST 18Original post

Can We Get Back on Topic? Any Chance of Returning to the Topic Folks..................?

POST 19Original post

Singapore is a city state, it is its own county known of its somewhat harsh stance on crime, lots of ppl like singapore, but i am not much of a fan, mainly because they hanged an Australian kid for smuggling heroin. and yes its seem the definition of unladen varys with different needs and disciplines.

POST 20Original post

I think it is incredible that we have had 22 posts regarding 'unladen' and not one mention of the airspeed velocity of African or European swallows.

POST 21Original post

Well.... since you mentioned African swallows, the exact unladen airspeed of an African swallow is ........... but please note there's a difference in the definition of unladen between the African and European species, hence their unladen airspeeds are also different!!!

POST 22Original post

thats monty python reference right ?, my friend forced me to watch it when i was learning english and he was laughing uncontrollablely thru out the movie, i couldn't see what was so funny about that movie, apart from the monks bashing their own heads with a wooden planck.
