Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi I'm a new poster to the forum. I'm looking at imminently selling my much loved 996...... 1998 3 owners Artic silver 3.4 C2 Porsche embossed hardback seats Carnewal switchable exhaust Litronic headlights 5 spoke carerra style alloys 113,000 Unfortunate cat d in 2008 prior to my ownership (picture available of rear bumper damage) Body work needs some TLC and tidying in places but a good cable throttled early car. Any ideas of a starting price?

POST 2Original post

Mine sold a couple of months ago (by the owner I sold it to) for £11k - which I think was cheap. It had 90k miles, upgraded IMS, brand new M030 suspension all round including arms. Sports seats, manual. I would suggest advertising at £13k and see what you response you get.

POST 3Original post

My 98 C2 Cabrio with hard top, 120K, was also Cat C or D over 10 years ago. I bought it in August for £7k from an advert on here. Lots of niggles to sort out, but essentially solid with new Bilstein shocks, Miltek silencers, clutch and plenty of recent receipts. It did have a dented wing and scabby bonnet with lacquer peel when I got it though. These were sorted with good condition second hand replacements in a perfect match colour. In the current market, I'd say yours is worth £13K all day long, possible even more. Cat C or D would only scare me if very recent. If it's been through 10 + years of driving and MOT's, any problem with the repair would have surfaced by now.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for your comments YPVS and Dave Moore It's a lovely car, had a engine rebuild at 60,000 miles (previous owner) but I have all the documentation for. Also prior to my ownership it had new ac condensers and an ice cold AC re-gassing. Recently oil and filter change with oil analysis from millers oils. Will price for a quick sale as i have a company coming 😩

POST 5Original post

Engine rebuild will also help for sure (who did it?). Id agree with the others, its looks a honest car for someone, the CatD will eliminate the folks who are really interested from the people just looking. Certainly the sort of thing Id buy so there will be folks out there looking.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Coullstar, engine was rebuilt in 2010 (60,000) and replaced by a Porsche specialist in Gloucester- have attached the invoice which looks like it cost the owner £3500 at the time. As I mentioned, couple of honest war wounds on the front/rear bumper and slight mark on the lower rear quarter. We look at an advertisement 👍

POST 7Original post

Nice looking car, probably a half engine rebuild or just one cyclinder at £3.5k? Think 20% less market value is rule of thumb for a cat d 👍

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi GT3Owl Thanks for your comments, I finding it hard to gauge what a non cat D car would be valued at. Only covered around 2000 -3000 miles since I purchased back in March 2020 due to lockdown 😩 As it's an earlier model with cable throttle, do they tend to be slightly more sought after?

POST 9Original post

I use a rule of thumb of 1/3 off non-cat car equivalents as long as the repair has been done well. Prices are moving a reasonable amount at the moment, so difficult to be precise, ultimately you'll just have to try the market and see. You can always adjust the price a couple of weeks in if you're not getting any interest or hold fast on the original price if you're getting a lot of offers.

POST 10Original post

Just depends what your after I guess, the C2 manuals tend to be more sort after, not sure if yours is manual or tip? You have some nice features which will attract buyers. Maybe try it on auction which a sensible reverse..

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Gt3Owl Yes it's a manual, and the registration year prefix is 'R" Also has 2 keys and the Immobiliser code I suppose it will free up some garage space 😩 Thanks for your help

POST 12Original post

If it's crashed or stolen / Damaged in the future the insurance company ignore the CatD price and value it as it stands, then only pay 50% of the value. A car that had the same damage but not written off has the same value as one that's never been had a claim.
