I just used what I had in my garage, so part of the confusion might be that I used a fully connected 12-pin quadlock and just used the 4 leads that I needed.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
Just wanted to make a quick thread for those of you who, like me, weren't blessed even with a simple 3,5mm AUX in on your expensive premium car.
Porsche
sells a retrofit kit, at great expense. Other vendors offer solutions that for some reason hijacks the antenna (so I am led to believe at least). But surely it cannot be that stupid? Well it isn't.
What you need:
1. 3,5mm AUX plug+cable
2. 12-pin quadlock connector
or
3. A ready made cable from Ebay like this:
AUX Adapter Interface Audio 20 30 50 iPod MP3 Cable For Mercedes Comand APS NTG | eBay
Any similar cable will do, just pick the cheapest one. Even better if you get a fully connected 12-pin quadlock and just use the leads you need for the 3,5mm aux in. Don't worry if the cable "fits" your veichle or not: you will be moving the cables most likely anyways to adapt to the CDR-30.
Next you will need the CDR-30 pinout, which I have attached in this post.
Installation
1. Remove stereo (there is an excellent article on how to do this
here
)
2. Read pinout diagram, move the cables on the quadlock to match the correct pins. If you have a fully connected quadlock - just use the cables needed for the AUX-in. Discard the rest.
3. Connect and test
4.
5. Re-install stereo and panel trim.
End result - a simple and cheap way to get AUX to your CDR-30 without any loss of quality. The stereo does not need to be coded by Porsche for this....well at least mine didn't.
Maybe this is common knowledge, but I it wasn't to me...I had to spend quite some time understanding this and realizing how easy it was to get AUX in working I figured I would share.
You should write this up in our Articles section, it would be pretty easy to repurpose what you've done already here, please give it a go! Thanks for contributing!
Hello Hallonz
Super tip
I'm one of the "idiots" who have bought the retrofit kit from
Porsche
. Hehe. Still haven't install it cause is still don't know if my idea will work. See my tread underneath yours
Seams like you know a bit about this. To you know if my idea will work?
I see, in the picture you posted, that you have the same "big black" cable in the back of you CDR as I just bought. Why do you have it, and no iPod/aux/USB from the factory?
Excuse my lack of knowledge on this part. I'm more of a mechanical guy, then a electronic "geek" hehe
Thanks for your time
Georg
Is this the device you are describing ?
AUX-CDR30 Auxiliary Input Adapter for Porsche CDR-30 Radio :: iPod Adapters & Interfaces
If so they have both mini-jack versions and Ipod connector versions.
Hi
,
Don't feel to bad, I am almost certain that your "real" cable will work as well. I personally do not like spending money for something that in all honesty should be part of any car made in the late 2000's - especially a Porsche. But we all know that - porsche makes great cars, that's what gets us hooked. Then they can charge us ridiculous amounts for simple creature comforts like AUX. :taunt:
I am uncertain of which big black cable you are referring to, the main quadlock is what is giving the stereo power and connecting the speakers etc. Within it, it has room for 2 smaller quadlocks; one I suspect is for bluetooth and the other is for the aux. This is what your cable will connect up to as well.
I do not know why Porsche didn't see it fit to include a simple AUX-jack in my car. The connections are there, the AUX is "activated" in the stereo - it just needs the cable.
To give you an idea - "my cable" cost 10 bucks and the install time was 15 minutes. It's really a simple but worthwile mod - finally I can listen to spotify in my Porsche!
Both yes and no - my cable is made from scratch. Their cable should also do the trick. It is however not the most cost effective choice for someone like me living in Sweden. The shipping+customs fees would not make this a good buy.
Also I like knowledge to be shared, this is just a matter of knowing which leads connect to what end so to speak. I'd rather share than keep it to myself if someone else wants to give it a go.
I have an aux in too with the
cdr24
. I just added streaming thru wifi with one of these units via airplay hack on
iPhone
. Pretty neat with loss less audio.
Excuse my ignorance as I am new to the
Porsche
world. I bought a
2007 Cayman S
the end of the December and have been searching around for the best way to add an aux input for my ipod. I found your write up, but I assume its for a 2009 and up and I was wondering if this would work with a
2007 Cayman
. I don't know the details about the stereo differences, but I assume from what I read that I have the CDR 24 stereo. I know I don't have
Bose
, but I am not sure if there are any other options to it. Anyway can this be done with the 2007 base
Cayman
stereo also?
With the reservation that I do not own a 2007, from what I understand of the CDR-24 there is no AUX pinouts on the back. My DIY only works with
CDR-30
stereos. However, there is a solution based on hooking up the telephone line in to an aux jack:
http://www.planet-9.com/987-cayman-...ectronics/59404-cdr-24-back-becker-audio-sound-input-jack-installed-review.html
or
aux_input
If you want to try this yourself, please see the attached pinout. I believe they connect the C12 and C7 pins to a 3,5mm jack which basically tricks the radio to think that there is an incoming phone call when there is something connected to the aux port. Be aware though; the sound will be mono. :/
Yeah, that was just temp. You can remove the rubber pad and run the cable along the console. I ended up running the 3.5mm jack cable and relocating the air enabler behind the radio console.
I have
987.1
but should be the same. Just use some T-taps to wire in an extra CLA (cigarette lighter adapter). RadioShack etc should carry all you need.
Question: The cable, from ebay that you mention in point 3, is it just plug and play in to the "spare" part of the
CDR-30
? Ore did you have to cut the cable and "figle" it in to the existing quadlock Connector?
Reviving this thread, because it's the only one I've found on the
CDR-30
.
I have a 2010 Cayenne base with this radio.
Are better instructions with a few more pictures available?
I'm thinking I'll take my cable to an audio shop and have them install it for me, but the instructions aren't too clear
I called quite a few shops in my area, and no one knows about this install. Everyone is telling me I need to have an FM modulator if I want an AUX jack on the cheap (about $200)
I wish OP snapped a few more pictures and listed some more steps. I would love to take a crack at this, but I'm thinking I will take it to an audio shop.
Sorry, I have missed your reply. Been busy arguing over
Porsche
SW flashes/tunes
.
Anyways - since quadlock is a standard the cable in my example will fit into the existing quadlock connector. If it for some odd reason doesn't then remove the outer casing of the cable you bought (the "grey" piece in the example link). Then just insert the connector-block with the quadlock in place, which is what I did and also showed a pic of. The only cutting/splicing involved is when connecting the cable to an 3,5mm connector.
I just used what I had in my garage, so part of the confusion might be that I used a fully connected 12-pin quadlock and just used the 4 leads that I needed. I cleaner and nicer way would be to get something like this:
Quadlock Connector Terminal Block Socket Connector Repair Kit Set Black 12 Pin | eBay
Then connect cables to the block corresponding to the correct pins. The other end would go either to a male or (preferably) a female 3,5mm connector.
I am not surprised that audio shops don't know about this. It isn't exactly well documented, hence the reason for this thread.
Tell you what - I have just ordered a new terminal/block from Ebay like the one I just posted.
When I get it I will take my stereo out, redo my install and take some more pics. I need to redo it anyways since it has been kinda bugging me that I did a "quick-fix", but it was the first sunny day of the year in Sweden and I wanted to get the car out and drive listening to some nice tunes on
spotify
. I might even oblige Ken and make an article of it instead of posting it in this thread. Sound good?
Hello! Reviving an old thread after getting a
987.2
today!
I've just ordered a cable as per OP's first message: this one:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Aux-...50-NTG2-APS/162898837158?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Just to clarify, will there be an empty socket for this to plug straight into on the back of the radio (I have the basic CDR-30 unit), or will I have to remove the wires from this and find the right bits to wire them into on the back of the radio?
Many thanks!
