Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, I haven't taken up a bad habit.... just bought a charger for my mobile phone that plugs into the socket. Problem is, it doesn't stay in well. Is the 996 12v socket a different size to most other cars ? It looks quite short and with the springy connector at the end of the plug it keeps popping out. Anyone else had this problem and/or know of a better solution than making it a tighter fit using lots of insulating tape?

POST 2Original post

Have you checked that the fag lighter socket is live with the ignition switched off and the key removed? On most pre-facelift cars it isn't. (Edit: Read properly, Richard. Phone charger, not battery charger). Can't help with the plug fit, I'm afraid. I find that some plugs fit well, and others don't.

POST 3Original post

I find the 996 socket to be better than the one in my Golf, but in general it's mostly down to the actual plug (usually of appalling quality!) fitted to the device. Assuming that there is a cable, your best bet is to buy a replacement plug (Maplins do one) & rewire that on.
