Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

Have you ever seen this message on the dash? Without any companion error code? I did a few days ago after 55K miles and searched all over the interwebs for an answer. Then after calling a couple of Porsche Stealerships who offered to either a) "Diagnose the issue for a per hour charge" or b) Sell me a front control unit for $549USD I took matters into my own hands. I disconnected the battery -- negative pole first -- and let the car sit for about a hour to fully discharge any remaining voltage in all the servos, proms, control units, etc. Reconnected the battery -- positive pole first -- and -- voila! -- everything is back to normal. There is some BS out there claiming "static from polishing the headlights" or your ballz will cause this fault but that's rubbish. The front control unit is isolated, insulated, as is all the wiring especially from the headlights. The lens are plastic and isolated as well. Plus the car creates vastly more static just traveling through the atmosphere. IF there were some short it would blow a fuse or cause a fire. Therefore the issue would likely be internal to the front control unit itself v some "cause." I'm sure there are legitimate failures for the front control unit -- like a lightening strike or an electromagnetic pulse weapon but the biggest one is likely that most are made in the Czech Republic v Germany. All the best. Hope this helps out.
