OK, so i finally go around to doing the Bose sound fix, only bad part was that even though i was doing it in my garage at 11:00 am today, the temp was 102 degrees in the DC metro area, so i sweated my ARSE off!!! Had to cover the seat with a towel and put a bandanna around my head:hilarious:, but mission accomplished, and i like the results. i noticed that now i can turn the Bass up to around 5 which improves the mid range with out a boomy sound on heavy bass notes, Steely Dan's
Babalon Sister
never sounded so good:dance:, i'm a happy camper. Thanks to all that experimented with this first and the good notes and pictures posted!!!!:banana::thanks:
Be careful out there. Don't underestimate the heat. I already heard of two deaths due to heat. One in the news and one personally.
Glad the Bose mod worked out for you. That was one of the first things I did.

Congrats. Which fix did you do? Is this the "stuff the subwoofer" fix? Thanks.
Nice... many of us have done the "Stuff the Sub mod" & I am glad you like the sound. So what's next??????????
More driving, what else???
I'm not a big mod guy except for functional things like splash guards, clear bra, etc., so maybe a bike/ski rack if thats considered a mod...
Would this be recommended for a Boxster too? All the posts I've read seem to be from Cayman owners and that the "boomy" bass is more of a problem in the enclosed confines of the coupe.
From what I recall the system was designed for the boxster and does not suffer the same issue as the Cayman, but if you find it too boomy then do it anyway, as it's a 30 minute job at most.
I did the "stuff the sub" mod myself a couple months ago and noticed a definite difference. The sub doesn't sound as "airy" as it did before and is not as intrusive. I think the sub, as others have said, was designed for convertibles where the port helps put more punch in the bass with the top down.
I notice now, when I am driving with the windows down, that the bass is not nearly as loud even with the bass level turned up which is a little disappointing. When the widows are up, the bass punch is much more noticable. Probably reflects the function of the port. Not sure if I like the lack of bass presence, but the music does sound better overall. Foo Fighters just don't sound the same with the port stuffed IMO.
The problem with the sub, as I understand it, is that the plastic ported enclosure is just not made right. It's flimsy and very reflective and the sound gets all jumbled. It sounds like a bad boom box instead of a high end stereo system. I'm also of the belief that the Boxster has its sub mounted in a different spot entirely with a different enclosure.
You can't really think the Bose sounds better without the stuffing under ANY circumstance, can you? When my windows are open, I just crank it up, the volume, not the bass. This system can handle a pretty good speaker load without breaking up if if the sub is properly damped.
I love the improvement it did to my radio
It's definitely an improvement, but the sub is just disappointing as you mention. I believe someone mentioned looking at the part number earlier in the thread and it said the part was from a Carrera Cabriolet. I was just making the point that there was a significant difference in the sound it put out with my windows down vs. windows up which likely reflects its original purpose...to be in a convertible.
I am a new Cayman S owner 987.1 2008. The link to the Bose Sound Fix no longer working. Can the original "how to" article with photos be re-posted?
Thanks
