Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that contain suggestions

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
The retail price for new wishbones (they are the same for all four corners) is £189.35 each (+VAT), and a decent indy will replace a pair in just about an hour and a half, plus it is best to do an alighnment check afterwards.
Leading evidence: 'Check afterwards' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check afterwards' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Suggestion
This is to replace the bushes with Powerflex versions on all four wishbones.

Suggestion
Technically its the bushes that go and you only need to replace these; but its the devils own job to get them out and thus there is a big labour cost - general consensus seems to be cheaper, faster and better to replace the trailing arms.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OPC gave me an advisory that, on my '99, C2, 996 Cab, Tip, "the front and rear bottom arms had split but were still intact"
What should I budget for fixing this - thoughts/experiences of others appreciated.
Many thanks.
If thats a trailing arm then you should be able to get new ones fitted for under £300.

... if indeed thats whats gone wrong in this case.
For something like that get a quote from a good Indy then either negotiate with OPC or get it done elsewhere. It's not a complicated job at all, just labour costs. You could also look on Hartech's website as they sell reconditioned arms with new bushes. You have to send your old arms back to them though. If you did this and went to somewhere with cheaper labour rates than an OPC it would save you some £s. Did they advise all arms, only fronts, only lowers? etc etc, get them to clarify... :thumb:
I'd get a second opinion if I were you. I assume they are referring to the lower wishbones, which are a common problem, but I can't believe all four have gone. The suspension would be creaking like an old iron bedstead.

I agree with Stuart - find yourself a decent indy. It amazes me how many people with 9 and 10 year old 996's try to preserve a FPSH.
Going to get Chris at Centre Gravity do fix my wishbones. Advised that all 4 are needing attention and this is going to cost £650 including a new alignment set-up. This is to replace the bushes with Powerflex versions on all four wishbones.
Cheaper than the £200 each for the replacement wishbones from OPC plus fitting costs and alignment costs. Also cheaper than going down the Hartech re-furbished wishbones route at about £115 each plus fitting and alignment.
Plus, having had Chris set my car up once already I know what I am getting from his expertise this time around.
