Suggestion

I reckon I would charge £100 to £150 but im am the other end of the spectrum so all into consideration IMHO the competitive local indy price should be around £250 using Bosch sensors.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just had my oxygen sensors replaced at a cost of £412.00 but ive just seen them for sale on line for £54 each!! yet on my invoice i paid £115 each for them...anyone out there remember the cost if you've had it done? cheers

POST 2Original post

£115.44+VAT is the Porsche list price for the sensor for a 3.4 car. You can get the same Bosch sensor from Euro Car Parts for about half that price.

POST 3Original post

why do they do that? what perverse pleasure do they get from fleecing people every time they go near a workshop. I can understand they want to make a margin but the fact that they think everyone is stupid therefore they can mark up by a few hundred percent is just galling.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi again Richard The figure you mentioned is exactly what i paid and it wasnt through an opc but through a reputable indy who im very happy with. When i went tp pay, the usual girl wasnt on the desk so one of the mechanics did the payment with me and when he saw the bill he pulled a face as though he couldnt believe it himself :dont know: By chance i had a look at www.forestfine.co.uk and saw them for around £55!! Bosch ones too! Then again..would an indy be happy to just charge for fitting if you supply the parts yourself? Yep..i got a bit fleeced this week...could always be worse :hammer:

POST 5Original post

Shocking but fully above board. I am sure if you saw the break down, you will see parts at full retail, labour at x per hour and a diagnosis / code clearing charge. If I had done the job for you, I have no over heads working on my drive, I am a tech consultant from www.FPUK .co.uk, so I can get all ems parts at wholesale, the lambdas on the 996 are so easy to get to, job done in 1 hour tops. I reckon I would charge £100 to £150 but im am the other end of the spectrum so all into consideration IMHO the competitive local indy price should be around £250 using Bosch sensors.

POST 6Original post

It's about 10 mins a side, if I remember correctly, 22 mm spanner and a plug connector. Clear the error codes by disconnecting the battery for a couple of mins. Fairly easy to get to even with the car on the ground as they're right at the back, but obviously easier on a ramp or jacked up. Euro car spares do the bosch ones and and a cheaper alternative for about £35 I think it was.

POST 7Original post

if the old ones come out easy..........be careful they can take the thread out with them.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hey asifmo and senoj worst part is..i had no idea what they actually were and have had the work done last week :what: and could really done without spending that right now...and its worse when you find out it shouldnt have cost half that :what: thanks for the info guys...can only hope she stays healthy for a while  ps are the sensors actually in the exhaust? regards peter

POST 9Original post

Yes, they're just after the cats, the later 3.6's have 2 sets I believe, 1 before and 1 after. If you open the engine bay you'll see an electrical connector on the wall nearest you on each side, they are directly above the sensors. They have 4 wires 2 white, 1 grey and 1 black. I had one fail and had a similar shock to you for the pricing, when the other went I did it myself.
