Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I happened to have a 1/2" wide plastic screwdriver like piece from my Garmin installation that worked perfectly to slide the cord behind the A-piller.

POST 1Original post

Here are photos of the Escort hard wire installation on my CS. The bracket is made of aluminum, painted flat black. It is just wedged in between the dash and the window trim and is completely removable leaving no trace. The wire is Escort's hard wire that is connected to a blank fuse slot from the rear of the fuse block and has a 3 amp fuse in the slot. I had a help doing this by Rob Parker at German Auto Service in Savannah. He hooked the wire to the fuse block and made the bracket. No drilling was involved and the entire installation is completely removable. View attachment 2866 View attachment 2867 View attachment 2868

POST 2Original post

Nice installation. I'm not too happy with the windshield mount since I have the auto mirrors and the Escort has to go off to one side. How is the unit fixed to the bracket? You know Cayman Club could probably sell some of those...

POST 3Original post

I thought that too about the center window mount when I first got the 9500i. But I've found that it sits nicely almost between the mirror (I also have the auto-dimming) with just the LED portion showing below it. My problem is trying to find some way to insert the hardwire cord inside the cover for the A-pillar. It seems like there is space in there for it, but how to get it in there I don't know. GM

POST 4Original post

Nice job man..... Nice to see some creativity. I love it....

POST 5Original post

I happened to have a 1/2" wide plastic screwdriver like piece from my Garmin installation that worked perfectly to slide the cord behind the A-piller. I bet you could fashion one fairly easily but if not I have a couple so I can send you one of my extras if needed.

POST 6Original post

Thanks. It looks like the article has the cord on the outside of the pillar though. I just remembered I have some fish tape that might work and just might keep the prying to a minimum. Seamus, Do you think your positioning will decrease sensitivity? I have read articles on the major detector sites that claim windshield hieght position doesn't really have that much of an effect. TX people can't put it there due to the huge stickers (with state advertising) they make us plaster there. Don't get me started on the size and mandated location of the E-Z pass sensor. GM

POST 7Original post

I used double sided 3M industrial velcro... Walmart. One piece on the bracket and one one the Escort. I'll talk to him about the bracket.

POST 8Original post

I would be VERY INTERESTED in purchasing that mount! Keep us posted if your installer would be willing to make a few and sell

POST 10Original post

There is one major drawback to placing the detector that low down, the rear receptors are blocked. Of course this would not be a problem if you are not worried about being over taken from behind by a mobil radar unit .

POST 11Original post

seamus- nice job. the location isn't for me but nice job. Does the location of the power wire input jack on the 9500i bother anyone else? I was let down to see it was on the driver's side of the unit. Would be better if it was on the passenger side of the unit.

POST 12Original post

I just went out and tested it with the new mounting. A radar sign on the opposite side of a 4 lane road set it off and continued to receive it for over 1/2 mile. At the same time, there were two other cop cars, one in front of me and one approaching on the other side (hey, I live in a tourist area) and all were picked up without fail at more than 3/4 miles... just for the record, all were K band.
