Living in a state that has just recently bought Lidar- laser guns, I am seriously considering buying The Escort ZR3 laser shifter device if I can find a competent installer. I read the installation article and it does not look like something I want to try at home.Has anyone used this device in laser enforced areas? Has anyone gotten out of a ticket with one? Does this device send out any kind of signature that can be identified by the officer which would prompt him or her to pull you over for operating an illegal radar jammer? Comments appreciated.
Sorry if this is related to a previous thread. Could not find one.
I use one obviously, it has saved me on 2 occassions, both times I forgot to hit the mute button to turn off jamming after I slowed down as I was too busy looking for the cop using the gun to remember. One time the officer was on an overpass standing
next
to a light pole on the overpass - very sneaky, the other he was on a clover-leaf just after you passed under a highway bridge. Neither officer gave chase so I'm assuming the jamming worked as advertised. We tested the shifter with with a LIDAR gun and shot a video (in FILES area of this site) and it worked making an error message show up on the gun.
The reason you can press mute to turn off the shifting is so that if you slow down and the officer hits you again he/she doesn't get another error but instead gets your new lower speed and thus doesn't think you are jamming him/her.
I don't think the device sends out any signature other than when it is shifting which is simply infrared, some infrared cruise control system send out similar signatures.
I recommend it if you want to go the full package, also talk to Gator Bite about driving in Lidar detection areas with just a radar detector. BTW, the install wouldn't be that bad for you now that I've done all the hard work in writing up the article!
Or have a good shop do it.
I highly recommend it. I've been on a motorcycle with one and the officer pulled over the person behind us who was pacing us. The amazing thing is, the officer walked (and I mean WALKED) over three lanes of highway traffic to tell the person to pull over. I thought for sure, he was going to pull us over.
I do have a question though. If these things are "legal" is it really necessary to turn off laser shifting when detected? Sure you don't want them to know what you're doing but it's not like they can do anything about it right?

Great information- as usual. The article was very well presented and detailed.I just dont trust my ability with that type of project. Good info on turning the device off for the second reading. Never thought of that. Our local dealer is a K40 installer so I will have to look around for other options.thanks for the feedback.
They are illegal in California.
Lidar/radar jammers
What is the recommended product to jam both lidar and radar?
Thanks!
Jamming RADAR (i.e. microwave radiation) is ILLEGAL in ALL 50 states, as it is considered a radio transmission regulated by the FCC. Fortunately for those of us outside the afore mentioned 9 states, infrared light and lasers are not regulated by the FCC, but actually the FDA, and there is not federal regulation involved here. Only local state regulations.

You know I've often thought the whole regulation of radio waves, etc. was just silly. What's
next
, regulating the light I'm allowed to get or not get from the sun? I understand why it was formed initially - to keep propaganda off radio stations for fear that the masses might be swayed as they were in Germany prior to WWII - but seriously in today's world a Blog reaches more people in a day than lived in Germany in WWII, why should radio, radar, x-ray or any other natural spectrum be any different?
Think of it this way, our founding fathers gave us the right to bear arms for fear that we might be oppressed by a govt. or military that had guns and the populace didn't. How is that any different than a govt. that has radar guns and the populace doesn't? Ok one is death by bullet the other is death by taxation, but you get the point.
Ok I can't go any further without violating our no political discussions here rule, but I've never found the control of what is freely available in nature (radio spectrum) to be something I agree with.
My SRX just saved my *** again yesterday. Take a look at this post:

The SRX is a ZR-3 with radar detector all in one.
W/o control over radio waves, I suspect they'd be much less useful b/c everyone would be broadcasting over the same frequencies, and it would be a clusterf**k. Maybe the FCC isn't perfect, but I'm glad they do what they do.
