Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

28 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

HI Richard, pic pls!! Rgds Roy

POST 3Original post

OK - Here you go: Spec: MY2007 Cayman S Manual Arctic Silver with Black Leather 19" Sport Design Alloys PASM Short-Shift Sport Chrono Plus PCM with Nav & Phone CD Changer Bose Multi-function Steering Wheel Xenon Lights Heated Seats Park Assist Auto-dim Mirrors Rain Sensor Wipers Silver Instrument Dials Door Entry Guards in Stainless Steel VTS So far, I'm chuffed with it. It has a very different feel to the 996. Certainly not as much grunt as the Turbo, but this is somewhat offset by the wonderful engine sound in the cabin. Not as much traction either, as it lights up the rear wheels far more easily. I need to take it somewhere to explore the limits of the handling, but it has a much lighter, more 'chuckable' feel that the 996.

POST 4Original post

Very nice, Whats the handling like? that wheel base looks shorter than the 996. I bet its quicker in the bends. It looks a lot of fun.

POST 5Original post

Very good - looks very smart. So, presumably, you already have a list of things for you/Tony to tinker with?

POST 6Original post

Richard - the wheelbase is actually longer than the 911, despite being about 4" shorter overall length. It handles very differently, and you can feel that the weight is further forward, and nicely balanced. It weighs the same as a C2, so about the same performance, but to me it feels quicker - perhaps it's just the sound. Martin - absolutely no plans for any modifications (yet). Apart from a Bluetooth and iPod kit, maybe.

POST 7Original post

Richard has been busy already [ ] De-Amber ? BOSE Mod ? Enjoy some non-tinkering driving but I am sure you will get the 'itch' to fiddle [ ]

POST 8Original post

Richard, Congratulations on the new motor. Did you trade the turbo in or sell it privately?

POST 9Original post

Health to enjoy Richard. [ ] More pics please and a bit of video?

POST 11Original post

LOL and when is the new book being released??? I want a signed copy please [ ]

POST 12Original post

Im going to shut up for once before Richard bans me.

POST 13Original post

There. It has been said. [ ] Lovely car, Richard. Adrian.

POST 15Original post

Keep up, Tiku - I sold the Turbo privately. Mike - the book is being proof read and edited now, so hopefully will be on the Sunday Times Bestseller list before Christmas. Oh yes - I forgot about the programming mods already done, thanks to Nick. And the Bose mod - I just have to tap up Mrs H for an old polyester pillow. [ ] De-amber, check. Oh no! Here we go again........

POST 16Original post

Nice car Richard hope it lasts longer than my Viper Green Cayman S Sport ltd edition did. I knew in a few outings i had made a big mistake changing it for my 996 GT3 Mk1. dont get me wrong if its to be an everyday car theres no better probably. Very capable all round car. But for me there was just no occasion when i drove mine as a weekend car Hence back in the fold of a GT3 MK2 again very costly lesson indeed. Good luck and hope you enjoy for a long time to come.

POST 17Original post

Spoke too soon. Just got an email from Peter Morgan. The book is now with the designer, but he is stacked up with work, and it will be March before it is published. I'm disappointed, to say the least, as I worked overtime to meet the manuscript date he gave me.

POST 18Original post

Call Pinky Lai, I'll bet he'll do it on his spare time. And congrats on the new car, must be very different to the turbo.

POST 19Original post

Nice. Really nice. Not the book delay but the car. An S with a manual gearbox. You can just see the purity or driving experience from the cabin.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh well - Just in time for Easter then I Guess!! Lovely car Richard!! Rgds

POST 22Original post

Cracking motor Rich, great shout, glad everything went well........ Steve

POST 23Original post

Nice car Richard really suits those wheels. Good luck

POST 24Original post

good luck with the new car richard, very nice.

POST 26Original post

Another new toy Richard , xmas has come early this year ! Now, for the record, which do you enjoy driving most - this or the air-cooled 911 ..?

POST 27Original post

That's a really tough one, they are so different. I couldn't begin to explain the differences technically. For me, on an emotional level, the driving experience in the 3.2 wins hands down. You forgive all its shortcomings, just because of what it is. The Cayman is just so sharp, and the feeling I get is more like how it used to be in my GTI days. Fun and chuckable. I'm happy I made the change from the Turbo, because that's what I wanted - a change. Given another 3-4 years I might be back in one. Who knows? Overall, I'd say I enjoy driving them equally. The novelty hasn't worn off yet, and I have a feeling it might take a while.

POST 28Original post

Yes thats how i feel it too. My everyday car is a clio 182 cup , very chuckable and practical car that can also take all weathers and general abuse. I had a go in a Cayman S and F355 on Croft circuit recently . Both on my need to test shortlist. The cayman was very capable. Then i had a go in the F355 , and despite its faults i bonded with it much more. Would be a great summer classic if any thing happens to the Targa. Life is too short for only one car at a time. Enjoy !
