Yea, I know, Duh! But, there may be something amiss. My Escort works fine in the lighter socket, but not in the other ones. The lighter socket is "hot". Are the others hot too? I mentioned to the salesman that the underdash power point did not power my Escort. He said there may be aproblem and to remind themwhen I next come in.
I may be just dumb, but my Escort works fine plugged into the lighter socket. The dealer said it should also work in the power point under the dash. I've tried it as wellas the one in the console, but neither work. It alomost seems as if the plug doesn't go in all the way? I checked the fuse for the PPs and it was ok, so they should be hot, but I don't have anything else to checkthem with at the moment, e.g., cell phone charger. Anyone else experience this?
Yes they are hot. Check your fuses. The fuses have a "go by" in several languages to assist.
The underdash lighter sockets cannot take as many amps as the regular cigarette lighter socket, I think it only has a 7amp fuse. I know we blew it out immediately after plugging in something on our way to Portland last year and then read through the manual to find out that sure enough you want to plug most things into the main socket unless the draw is low enough to use the underdash one. Evidently your detector needs more juice and you've probably blown a fuse, should be an extra down in the fuse box area by your left foot, again check the owner's manual.
My V1 works just fine with the underdash socket. Does the escort draws more amps?
As does my Garmin GPS. A radar detector,
any
radar detector, draws far less than 7A. Absent a short, the Escort wouldn't blow the fuse.
Works in all the sockets. If the fuse is not burned out then you may not have it plugged in all the way. It is a bit difficult to get in the pasenger side foot well. OR your device may require more amps than the fuse allows. My Escort works all around however.
I just got my Escort last week and it works in both also.

Sorry if I hit the wrong spot on this post, but I don't recall seeingany previous responses. Maybe I just didn't check right since I was away for a few days. Mea cupla.
In any event, the fuse is a 7 amp I know and it looks fine to me. And if as others replied, their Escorts work fine, then something else must be amiss. I'll have the dealer check it the next time I want to do the 80 mile round trip or am over in HH for something else.
Thanks for the replies.
Just to finish this off, after I twisted the Escort plug (sometimes force does work!) around a bit, both power points worked just fine. No problems. But I've ordered a hard wire from Escort toeliminate this issue all together.
I had the same trouble with mine. I noticed the plug under the dash seemed to plug in at a slight angle that made it hard to plug in, impossible while driving. I just got it hardwired when I bought my ZR3 and I am much happier with it now.
Escort and passenger power plug
I too had a problem when I tried to plug my Escort smart cord plug into the passenger side outlet - it would only work if I used an extension first, so I think it has something to do with the tip not quite making contact in the Porsche plug (unless you really twist it in like Seamus suggests).
Anyway, hardwiring a detector is very easy and clean, and allows you to leave the detector on without worrying about draining the battery when you turn the car off (I don't know why Porsche leaves all their 12V outlets powered without the key).
