Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Don't only check the service book look for invoices and bills too, this will tell you what other work has been done.

Service history is worth checking twice, these cars need to be looked after 100% !
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
Having never owned a Porsche before, but aways wanted to, I have decided to spend up to £17-18k on a 996 coupe.
My question for you guys, who know what you are talking about is:
What is the model to go for and what should I look out for, i.e. C2 or C4, tiptronic or not, what mileage to go up to, etc, etc.
Also, why do some have 3 spoke and others have 4 spoke steering wheels? and.....what does the sports exhaust add?
Thanks for your help.
You are looking near the bottom end of the market so be careful. Budget £2-3k per year for servicing, tyres etc. Buy on condition, not mileage and get a propper Porsche specialist inspection (£400 ish) before you commit to buy.
C2 or C4 is up to you. Do you need the extra storage space? - go for a C2. Do you want more security in cold / wet conditions? - get a C4.
Tips are more difficult to abuse but can't be driven like a manual, especially if you are looking to do track days etc.l
Later models had the 3 spoke which looks better, but can always be changed for £3-400.
Sports exhaust (especially if switcheable) adds a great sound but no performance advantage.
Hope this helps. Any more questions just shout ...
Welcome to 911uk - :welcome: battenobbs,
With the current prices being very low your in a good position !
C2 will feel a little lighter being two wheel drive.
What you looking for, do you have any ideas ?
I would be looking for a 996 C2, Manual, nice colour (black/silver) with a GT3 Aerokit !
I would not worry too much about miles the car has done, its the way the car has been looked after that is as important. PPI (a check over) is a must. Service history is worth checking twice, these cars need to be looked after 100% ! Don't only check the service book look for invoices and bills too, this will tell you what other work has been done.
Something like this would do -

Good luck in your search, feel free to post any question or links to cars your thinking of !

I think they both look pretty tempting, though the 99 car seems on the high side maybe max 16k would be more reasonable due to the options and condition as standard 996 must be less the 15k now. IF they are localish best way is to start driving, I found when looking for mine, even though they looked great in photos, as soon as I saw them on the drive I had already decided they were not even worth sitting in.
