So I've noticed something strange with my Cayman. If I'm sitting in the car with the engine off, but the stereo on, the stereo will sometimes short out if you open the glove box or roll down the windows. It comes right back on afterwards, but something is not right.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what's happening?
bad battery. I had to replace mine short after 6000 miles on it. Cayman feeds on voltage not on gas...
My stereo just gets quieter for a while then comes back up fading in and out and driving me nuts but it doesnt cut out. I never have a chance to get the car to service when service is open...
tme110 are you aware that is a "feature"? Take a look in your radio owner's manual for a complete discription. It can be owner disabled.
I don't think it's a bad battery because I just bought the car about a month ago, certified used, and they checked the battery out in their inspection.
Any other thoughts?
nope, AP has long been turned off.
TME, turn surround off, do you have the same issue still? Also, does this happen with every source, or FM only?

You have a bad ground connection somewhere.
i have the same problem and the service guy said the problem was the radio station frequency....i dont believe him
Honestly, there are radio station frequencies in town that do this in all the cars I drive around here... the volume goes up and down repeatedly... so his prediction might hold some water.
If you guys provide more details on whether or not you have surround turned on or off, and if it is in fact the radio that you're experiencing this problem on and not other sources, it would help diagnose the problem a lot.

Suneet,
I sent you a PM instead of highjacking this thread.
thanks,

My radio likes to change channels on its own occasionally...
For me it was cutting out no matter what I was listening to (FM or CD), but it hasn't done it in a while so maybe it worked itself out...
My Cayman came with something called the CDR24. In FM mode it seems to slip from stereo to mono and back again based on what I hear...lack of depth of sound...my surround is off...but the stereo indicator remains on all the time. Also, what's this goofy FM-AS mode?
