Last weekend, I installed the
PCM
2.1, the Dension Gateway for
iPod
, and Porsche navigation. I picked up the unit used off ebay, and let me say, did I get lucky! The car it came out of (997 Turbo) had
Bose
, Navigation, and a CD Changer. I didn't need ANY dealer programming, and it all works!!!
The Dension performance is decent. Sound is flawless, and menu and searching is ok, it can be a little slow at times, but much quicker than I expected it would be. Menu system is pretty clean, and decently easy to work through. Considering its aftermarket, and utilizing the
PCM
, it works pretty closely to my friends new
BMW
with iDrive/USB
ipod
control.
PCM
also brings some nice functions to the Cayman that I was not aware of before. You can program settings for each key. What door it will unlock, etc. You can adjust the lighting, the rain sensor settings, etc. All very nice touches that I was not aware of before.
I also want to post a thank you to forum sponsor SunCoast Porsche, especially Ric Knab. I called Ric, told him what parts I already had and my car configuration, and he sent me every other piece I needed, right down to OEM wire ties! The fiber optic harnesses were all correct, and the install went very smoothly. It was just like having a proper retrofit kit.
Congrats!
That sounds like far more functionality than the factory installed NAV.
Have we through you found a better solution than what P-AG offers us factory built?
I have never used a
PCM
, as installed in a Cayman from the factory. Do you have a "factory
PCM
?" Do you not have some programming options for keys, etc?
The factory unit does have the functionality you've described; ability to set rain sensor, key memory, climate control memory, etc. You definitley lucked out on the no-programming.

I actually have
sport chrono
plus features in it now too..but it gives an error when I try it because the other components are not connected.
