Hello! I’m getting ready to send an eBay sourced exhaust to Cantrell for the Carnewal mod and one heat shield has some damage that was undisclosed by the seller. Can the heat shields be replaced? Are they even necessary? My Fabspeed doesn’t have them and no other aftermarket exhaust that I’ve seen has them! I was considering sending them to Jet-Hot because the finish is pretty gross and that should also contain the heat in the pipe better than any heat shield possibly could! Any thoughts or advice?
They probably cut that to more easily get a wrench on the nut. I don't see any part number for it in the catalog, it's included with the whole muffler assembly from
Porsche
.
The heat shielding is to insulate the components in that area rather than keep heat in the pipe. Most aftermarket exhaust manufacturers don't want or need to consider if they might (for example) overheat the oil in the rear struts or melt the headlight level sensors. A thermal barrier coating is probably a decent compromise.
I say form her back into shape and throw a nice band on the edge and send it.
To dovetail onto what mainsoda typed, nobody is crawling under to judge your repair, it's not like the hood is dented. Integrity and longevity are really the only repair goals unless you're like most of us and will lose sleep over it, in that case replace it.
All good points! I’ll see what it looks like when it gets back from Cantrell and decide how important it is to me then!
DEI has some similar material that could be used to fab up a new one.
Form-A-Shield™ - 12" x 21"
They also have some clamp on pieces intended for use on motorcycles, but it'll help shield the brake lines and struts from exhaust heat.
That's some intriguing kit. Love the stainless ties. I haven't ever seen those before.
