I was trying to figure out what went wrong and tested the transmission guide sleeve and the main shaft for play and wobble.
Leading evidence: 'Test transmission guide sleeve and the main shaft' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check leaks, etc.i recall it had no noticable wobble' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I ran mine apart with the flywheel only, but only at idle and just for a short time to check for leaks, etc.I recall it had no noticable wobble.

i will check the rod bearings tomorrow but they looked fine.

Do you know if I can use the crank from a Boxster 2.7?

Yes the 2.7 ,3.2 and 3.4 crankshaft are the same and are compatible with one caveat , the early ones use a dual roller chain drive for the IMS, and must use the dual roller sprocketed IMS ..

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need some help from jumping off a cliff 😭😭😭
I was doing a clutch replacement and figured I order a used aluminum flywheel and clutch kit from a parts guy in CA. Anyway, once I got everything put together I was able to drive the car for about 20min and everything was shifting fine until I heard metal grinding and couldnt get it into gear. Once I remove the transmission I noticed that the ThrowOut bearing was completely destroyed and the shifting lever was scrapping the pressure plate.
I was trying to figure out what went wrong and tested the transmission guide sleeve and the main shaft for play and wobble. They both were in good shape. So I figured I video the flywheel/clutch and notice that at idle there was a noise but not too much wobble.

but here is the horrible wobble at revs.

Is this an issue with the stack (flywheel/clutch/pressure plate)? Or am I in a horrible position with a bent crank shaft? 😭😭😭
thank you guys for your help 👍
You remembered to install the pilot bearing? Things can go very bad at high revs without one, starting with the symptoms you described.
For the run-up with the clutch assembly, both looked pretty bad, the speed one was scary. I wouldn't even idle it with the whole assembly as it's nowhere near balanced and at speed the plate can shift becoming very out of balance. I ran mine apart with the flywheel only, but only at idle and just for a short time to check for leaks, etc.I recall it had no noticable wobble.
First off, stay far away from that cliff.... Sorry this happened to you...
That crank is in 2 pieces. Broke right in half.
LWF are notorious for setting up harmonic inbalance in m96 engines/cranks, and snapping them in 2. Some last for a while if a fluid damper is also installed.
IIRR, Jake spoke about this in detail. Said he only see's broken cranks when a LWF is installed.
IMHO its something about chains on both ends of the m96 engine that cause horrific harmonics without the dual mass flywheel to smooth out the vibes...

Thank you for the info.
Do you know if I can use the crank from a Boxster 2.7? I think the part numbers are the same.
Would a clutch with the springs help?
Not positive about the 2.7 crank, but iirr, yes it fits. PT3 might chime in with his expertise as he knows exactly what fits and what doesn't.
As for the clutch,,, a stock oem Sachs clutch and (Luk)
Dual Mass Flywheel
is all thats needed and is what will last and be reliable. Unless its a track car there is no advantage to any other clutch for a street car.
The
Aluminum light weight flywheel you got used
caused all your problems.

Yes, either your flywheel was not bolted/torqued properly or the crankshaft is broken to have that kind of flywheel wobble shown,. Have you removed the flywheel yet?
Yes the 2.7 ,3.2 and 3.4 crankshaft are the same and are compatible with one caveat , the early ones use a dual roller chain drive for the IMS, and must use the dual roller sprocketed IMS .. the later models use a Hyvo chain drive for the IMS and must use the Hyvo sprocketed IMS....
So any 2.7 or 3.2 crankshaft will work on the 3.4 if the IMS chain drive is the same style, It not same drive chain type you will also need the matching IMS...
Once I took the crank out of the cradle I found the issue. The 1st main bearing was almost all gone. The second main bearing was starting to get worked out too. Crank has grooves also.
i will check the rod bearings tomorrow but they looked fine. I did get a 2.7 5-chain boxer engine that I will swap out the crank and cable.
