Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Heres my thought and would like to hear yours :
When I bought my car, a 996tt, I was really with my heart split in two.
Either a 996tt or a 996 GT3.
I want a car that would be a keeper for quite a while and in the end, I got the turbo. I still lust for a GT3 but I knew that wouldnt be a good option, in my head : I dont have enough skills to do what I do in a turbo in a GT3, I would have crashed by now. The Turbo saves you wheres the GT3 would bite you. And I would have quite a few bites.
Also, I do like the Jack / Hyde char of the turbo : can go shopping with the thing and I do but I just have to flick the gearbox to unleash hell.
But cant stop thinking.. would it make sense to keep this car for years and years to come ? Even a 993, which is not that long ago, due to its limited production ( a normal C2 ) can put a smile on a porsche nut.
Would a 996 turbo do the same in a few years ? Or due to its mass produced history will be looked in a few years as a not so interesting car - reminds me of for example, a Nissan 300ZX - savage car at the time, loved it but now I look at it and think - what the hell was I thinking ??
I wont swap the turbo for a GT3, but where the GT3 seems to be more prone to have loving owners, the Turbo seems to have more "consumer" owners - at least the 996 - previous generations are different. If possible, most of the 996tt owners would swap their cars for a 997tt.
Would be a time that the 996tt will start to be an apreciating asset ?
Im facing this because I would like to spend a few grand on my car now : repainting the doors and front bonnet, refurbish the wheels, swap clutch and front suspension, couple of hundred on a good detailing.
But is it worth it ? I know that the car wont start to rise in value anywhere soon... And I know the answer : if its worth it for me, it would be then..
I'm having the same issues with the C2. I lust after the GT3 but with current circumstances I can't see a change within another year. So do I spend money on the C2 or put it in a 'pot' for a GT3? The problem comes from spending £200 this month, £400 the next, where do you stop? There's an instant gratification to modifactions, finance wise the '3' is not going to happen straight away so what harm is spending the extra £ ?...
If you're still enthusiastic about the variant then stick with it and treat yourself every now and again. Porsche is a passion brand, whether it be a GT, TT or Carrera...
Even a 993 has taken a big hit, assuming its been used and enjoyed- the list price was well over £60k, nearly £100k for a turbo.
Ultra low miles 993 turbos are still advertised for £80k, but who knows if they'd fetch it now.
I think a mint, low miles unmodified Mk 1 GT3, possibly GT2, might increase in value over time, but then where's the fun in that???
The work on your car will cost much less than changing to a different car- there is a lot of satisfaction to be gained from getting your car just as you want it.
I've changed to the 'next model up' a few times now- I can honestly say I've never enjoyed the new car enough over the old one to justify the expense.
If you want to invest, only the best of breed, rare cars ever go up in the long run, e.g. RS... no other production Porsche has ever been that much of a collectors item compared to Ferrari or Aston.
