Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

PS This query reminds me of the Porsche advertisement of yore where they showed ALL the parts a 944 had changed with the addition of the turbo I suppose to both justify the price increase and cement to the customers that it's not as simple as just forced induction into the engine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

My 07 Cayman 3.4 was leaking coolant so naturally we dropped the engine and pulled the heads hoping it was just head gaskets. Sadly it was not. D Chunk in left bank cylinder 3. Strangely other than the leak the engine was running fine. I should say I'm running a Garrett turbo with 7 lbs of bust. Originally I purchased the TPC kit that failed in about 6 months so I reached the tubing, blow off valve and turbo with so reasonable quality items 4 years ago. Now I'm facing the same issue that too many of us have faced. Rebuild or replace. I've decided to send the block out for reboring and new sleeves with final bore to be 3.6. But I'm looking for some guidance on recommended compression ratio, pistons and rods and bearings too if stock aren't strong enough. I'm hoping to jump my boost to 15 lbs max. This isn't a track car but my summer toy. Am I expecting to much? What am I forgetting and what parts would you suggest? Thanks everyone. Old Guy

POST 2Original post

Unless the journey is integral to your satisfaction and hobbyist passions. Fix it, sell it buy more performance from Porsche, otherwise I think you are eventually facing the same future. One example: You can buy the beefiest crank bearings but the number of bearings stays the same. Additionally, a monster powerplant is only complemented with compensatory changes to the chassis, brakes and other peripherals. Just my thoughts, good luck.

POST 3Original post

You are absolutely correct. It's a slippery slope when you start mods. But my intention is only to improve the hp performance slightly without reaching the point of having to change everything. As a retired old guy I can't afford that. Thanks for your input. Cheers

POST 4Original post

Well you are boring it out, why not make as many small changes as you can and run it N/A? I had a lot of fun playing with the 986 I had. I did everything I could think of and in the end it had more "go go" as measured by my butt dyno. When it was time to buy my "last Porsche" I could have purchased an S way cheaper. Then I would have wanted to make it Spyderish so I just skipped that step. PS I'm old too so I get it totally. However what I'm finding in aging is that the pleasure extracted from spending money, even on travel is less than I imagined it would be when I was busting my stones to increase the pile of coin in my youth. So if this ignites passion in you, then by all means go for it because we spend a lot of time in the dirt. PS This query reminds me of the Porsche advertisement of yore where they showed ALL the parts a 944 had changed with the addition of the turbo I suppose to both justify the price increase and cement to the customers that it's not as simple as just forced induction into the engine. Have a great day fellow enthusiast (and old guy)
