Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

this might sound stupid, but i have seen threads regarding these, can anyone tell me what actually they are and what they do?

POST 2Original post

There is one bolted to each spark plug. The coil fires the plug directly when given a signal by the ECU. They replace the old coil, distributor and ignition leads. Obviously with one coil per plug the spark generated is far more powerful and the timimg of the ignition can be adjusted as required dependent on load etc. Tony

Similar, an ignition coil transforms the battery's 12 volts to thousands of volts needed to produce a spark to the spark plugs. example: http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Porsche_911_3.4_1998/p/Car-Parts/Electrical-and-Lighting/Ignition/Ignition-Coils/?413330080&1&eee30241e2279fa9ba9ec34eb3f49144709b1ed4
