Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I'm flushed with confidence having changed my brake pads (on my Trooper) in about an hour, outside in the dark last night - using only a head-torch for illumination!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all newby to this forum, I had the fronts done last month with pads, worked out about 570 quid all in . I now want the rears done too which will be approx 500 quid all in from the local Indy. I could do this or is there a cheaper way? maybe buy the discs myself and ask Indy to fit. Has anyone done their rears lately ? thanks

POST 2Original post

Hi and :welcome: There is a thread on here somewhere by someone who did this himself and said it was reasonably within the capabilities of most people with basic DIY skills. Having said that, not sure i would risk it myself - especially with the rears and added complication of handbrakes etc...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I have no skills so best I let the pros do it

POST 4Original post

parts are aprox £300 and it takes a novice 1 hour both discs. easy job.

POST 5Original post

Might have a go at my own next time now... I'm flushed with confidence having changed my brake pads (on my Trooper) in about an hour, outside in the dark last night - using only a head-torch for illumination! Car stops properly now, and the annoying little red light has gone out! So unless the wheel falls off tomorrow or something, it's 996 discs next time

POST 6Original post

I'm with you Wattie. I've done my own brakes on all my cars since I was a lad. It did help that me grandfather was a master mechanic so I learnt from an early age. I have been a bit sceptical about tackling the Porsche brakes but after watching a few youtube vids it's even easier on these brakes as the caliper doesn't even move. I'm actually looking forward to the pads and salivating over the rotors.......bring em on. :bandit: Pete Merry Christmas to all :santa: :santa: :santa:
