Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If you are the type that shifts and then both hands back to the wheel, its probably a non-issue.
Leading evidence: 'non-issue' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'non-issue' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Tighten things up' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Is there anything additional that can be done to tighten things up.

I bought the short shifter used on PCA Mart, so maybe a factor.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have very little driving experience with various gearboxes within the 996 family so looking for some feedback please. Just swapped out the standard gearbox for a B&M short shifter. I bought the short shifter used on PCA Mart, so maybe a factor. I love the new feel of the shorter gated throws but I am somewhat surprised at the lateral movement in the shifter when in gear. I was expecting it to be tighter than the standard box and I feel like it is even looser. The shifts are more precise and night & day in travel time for certain but I'm not sure I like the sloppy side to side feel when in gear. It is that way in all gears. If you are the type that shifts and then both hands back to the wheel, its probably a non-issue. But when I'm casually driving, my hand is resting on the shifter all the time and the lateral play is annoying.
Is this normal? Is it because I put in a used gearbox that has developed play over many miles? Is there anything additional that can be done to tighten things up. I just don't have the experience to know. I have included a picture. I attached a new Black Forest Billet shift know and alcantara shift boot and I think it looks and feels awesome
.
Thank you. Looks like its just a kit to upgrade the various plastic bushings, etc within the B&M shifter I just installed?
Sure wish I had known and would have installed at the same time. Glad to hear there is a solution though.
I had the same slop with a B&M clone SSK. I went with a Numeric V2 which cleaned up a lot of the slop. Here is a comparison video. It feels more precise now.
