I have used JB Weld on several underbody replacement studs over the last few years.

Suggestion

A better solution are the VAG studs N-906-526-02 which also can use JB Weld.

I was hoping to tap into the knowledge base here regarding replacing the threaded underbody posts that the plastic 10mm shouldered nuts affix to, when retaining the underbody protection panels.

I first used ClickBond studs successfully but the thread is not the same as the factory shouldered nuts (I could force them to thread only because they are plastic).

My go to metal to metal in the past has been JB Weld but it has been years since last doing anything of this nature and the whole bond/glue arena has exploded with so many various options, as manufacturers increasingly use glues to hold modern cars together, very confusing!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was hoping to tap into the knowledge base here regarding replacing the threaded underbody posts that the plastic 10mm shouldered nuts affix to, when retaining the underbody protection panels. I have a full set of correctly sized 'big foot' stainless replacement posts and also fresh plastic nuts. My plan is to cut the remaining stumps off and then clean up the area and bond the 'big foots' into place. My question is.... What would anyone with experience of this task recommend to bond the 'big foot' posts to the body? My go to metal to metal in the past has been JB Weld but it has been years since last doing anything of this nature and the whole bond/glue arena has exploded with so many various options, as manufacturers increasingly use glues to hold modern cars together, very confusing! Any comment or recommendations would be very gratefully received, thanks.

POST 2Original post

I don't think any type of glue will bond to the undercarriage sufficient enough to handle the tug and pull the underbody panels experiences. Probably why Porsche made those part of the body work.

POST 3Original post

I have used JB Weld on several underbody replacement studs over the last few years. I first used ClickBond studs successfully but the thread is not the same as the factory shouldered nuts (I could force them to thread only because they are plastic). A better solution are the VAG studs N-906-526-02 which also can use JB Weld. The best may be the Porsche Rivnut: Porsche also has a Rivnut type replacement 999-190-342-01 which does not need any adhesive since it mounts thru a hole. The rivnut then expands and holds it in place. Hope this helps.

POST 5Original post

U want the 2 part 3m panel bond adhesive. Clean it well and will never come off. I welded mine on but the interior was stripped.
