The tester didn't do any tests to check water tightness to the roof.

Mine can now sit out in a full downpour with only a tiny drop coming throught the top of one A pillar and this will be fixed when I change the seals this summer.

Big bill to pull out all the sound proofing and carpets, dry it all out and then replace some damaged electrics - there's a lot under the seats.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Welcome to 911uk - :welcome:
Sorry to hear about the Boxster - :nooo: There are some ***** out there.
Good luck in the search of the 996 Cab, there is not alot inb the C2/C4 drive, the C2 may feel a little lighter if anything.
Feel free to post any links to cars your looking at.
Happy New Year.
Dan
Hi scits1
If you end up going for a C2 make sure it has PSM fitted, this is not standard on this model. I fell for this one only finding out that I didn't have this after I bought it.
Maybe an obvious one, make sure that you have the hard top, the fitting tool, plugs and the front roof cap.
Happy hunting
Roger
Hi And welcome, check out the 'sticky' at the top of the 996 forum - downloadable guide by adrian crawford. Only other advice i would give would be get an inspection before you buy.

There's a buyer's checklist we did for the PCGB forum which you might find helpful:

thank you to all who have replied, i am quickly discovering that until i joined something like 911uk and asked a question how little i know about these cars specs/variations once again many thanks and a happy/prosperous new year to you all
When I bought my Cab I had the full inspection done which showed a few small things.
What it didn't show - because they don't check for it - is whether the roof leaks!!!!
Sounds obvious, but when the inspection was done the previous owner had had it garaged and brought it out for the test. The tester didn't do any tests to check water tightness to the roof.
Consequently the first time it got left out in the rain it leaked badly. Big bill to pull out all the sound proofing and carpets, dry it all out and then replace some damaged electrics - there's a lot under the seats.
So one thing I would definately do is drive any possible cars to a garage with a pressure washer and soak it as hard as possible. Obviously little drips might get through, but this will show up damaged seals, poor roof locking mechanism, tears or rips in the hood itself etc.
If the owner won't let you do this, walk away.
Mine can now sit out in a full downpour with only a tiny drop coming throught the top of one A pillar and this will be fixed when I change the seals this summer.
Other than that, C4 Tiptronic gets my vote. I tried the C2 and manuals but for sheer fun this is the best package. It means you get PSM and if you are planning to use it all year I would say you have to go for the heated seats.
Also there are lots of good independant specialists. if you find a car you like, have a look who has maintained it. I'd be more impressed with a good history of specialists than the OPC cowboys. Plus you can always call up to check the history and background if it's a good car.
Good Luck!
