This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Guys just use a screwdriver to throw the catch over, replicating what the bonnet loop does...then you will see if the light goes out.But remember not to attempt to shut the bonnet, you must release the bonnet catch in the usual manner first, clean the micro switch with WD40, it is in the bottom of the catch and gets grit and dust build up in there....not always neccessary to strip down but easy to do if you want to.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

On my 996 whilst faffing about in the dark under the bonnet I realised that the previous owner had disconnected the luggage compartment light? Can anyone shed light on this? Do they drain the battery causing Christmas day woes? Martin :santa:

POST 2Original post

The same has been done to mine, although I would have thought the draw on the bulb is fairly minimal and presumably off as soon as the bonnet is closed.

POST 4Original post

Mine is just broken. The light comes on about one in 100 opens. I think the switches built into the latching mechanism are quite average to say the least. Wouldn't surprise me given my experience if they can lock on....

POST 5Original post

I have the same problem as Jeff - occasionally it causes the alarm to go off when shutting the boot (assume the switch must flick on and off quickly as the lock shuts). Does anyone know if it's an easy job to change the switch? :?:

POST 7Original post

Looks like it is very common, mine sometimes works sometimes does'nt. :? TB

POST 8Original post

Can I borrow someone very small for an hour or so TB

POST 9Original post

The best way I've heard of for testing that it switches off when you close the lid is to put a digital camera in there on a time delay shutter. Close the boot until it has gone off, and then open it to see if you have a picture! Works with fridges too!

POST 10Original post

...Or you could use a screwdriver and push down on the latch to get it to "lock" - Just dont forget to "unlock" it before slamming the bonnet down...
