* looked it up, they run 0.5bar which around 7psi, so I’ll guess that’s on a stock motor… I bet a RUF kit is 20k… OP, you should try if you think it’ll work, obviously it does… my apologies to you, I had no idea there was enough room…

’s… but there is a lot more room… again, you’ll stick 10k minimum into even possibly getting it running only to have to rebuild the motor after it blows… you’d be better off with a TPC turbo kit but from what I read those blow too…high compression motors don’t handle boost very well or very long… not trying to sound mean (even tho I do), but if your asking if this is possible tells me you’re inexperienced… that’ll cost you heartache… ask questions, absolutely, but learn and listen… hey back in the 90’s I built a 9 second RX-7….

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Does anyone know someone that sells a Supercharger for a 2007 Cayman S

POST 2Original post

In for comments. Have you looked at a cayman / boxster 3.4 engine bay? Where are they going to put it? Superchargers are belt driven. Sent from my SM-G991W using Tapatalk

POST 3Original post

You could remove the passenger seat? Flip that blower around. Put a cup holder on top of your blower? (keep that coffee warm) Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk

POST 4Original post

Logistics aside, I think supercharging a Porsche engine without robust modifications to engine internals is going to shorten the engine life.

POST 5Original post

Any engine that came from the factory as a high performing normally aspirated engine, particularly one that can run at high rpm, you really don’t want to introduce turbocharging or supercharging. It can be done, sure, but it’s probably not going to last that long. If you want to replace all the internals and tuning and all that? Sure, then maybe you could do it. But now you’re talking high budget.

POST 6Original post

The most you would be able to run for boost is maybe 5-6psi, and your driving a time bomb. You’ll spend 10k making that work and another 15-20k for a rebuild…. Don’t mess with it (imho)

POST 7Original post

His other thread is now seeking cams, sounds like what he really needs is a Corvette or maybe a Mustang . A Cayman is not going to be a light to light boulevard bully that was never the intent for the vehicle.

POST 8Original post

Porsche ’s in general, you buy them for what they are… you want power, buy a 996-997 TT, if that’s not enough… ya might be looking at the wrong brand

POST 9Original post

Again, a 11:1 compression motor can only safely handle 5-6psi, so given what this will cost it’s not worth it…

POST 11Original post

Just looking for a project to keep me busy. There were several superchargers made but no longer available.

POST 12Original post

Unless you have advanced skills in engine building, the cams would "keep you so busy" it could be many months before it ever runs again if ever. There were these bloggers, the boost brothers garage, who posted their odyssey of a Cayman engine rebuild. I watched every video with fascination. It was an education on the engine design and disassembly. As far as I know they never got it back together, I emailed the guy once and it sounded like they got in way over their heads. I could relate. When I was about ten my father gave me a weber carburetor to disassemble and reassemble, lets just say it was a good thing it was off a junker, I never got it right. Maybe he was trying to teach me something before I entered the family business, then again we didn't have internet or X box so I'm sure he thought it would be a unique toy experience.

POST 13Original post

I’ve seen SC’s on 911 ’s… but there is a lot more room… again, you’ll stick 10k minimum into even possibly getting it running only to have to rebuild the motor after it blows… you’d be better off with a TPC turbo kit but from what I read those blow too…high compression motors don’t handle boost very well or very long… not trying to sound mean (even tho I do), but if your asking if this is possible tells me you’re inexperienced… that’ll cost you heartache… ask questions, absolutely, but learn and listen… hey back in the 90’s I built a 9 second RX-7…. Don’t think I didn’t make any major errors… back then, no road map… here there is knowledge and experience

POST 14Original post

I am not inexperienced I have totally rebuilt 2 968 engine, performance cams, knifed edged crank, port&polished head and so on!

POST 16Original post

The 987 Cayman S based Ruf 3400K featured a supercharger and made 400 hp. A while back there was a real peach of one for sale in OK, but they’re as rare to come across as it gets. Here’s a pic of one from the innerwebs… Painfully beautiful! 🤤 OP it might be worth contacting Ruf to see if they might have a supercharger laying around, or perhaps point you in the right direction.

POST 17Original post

RUF win the award for coolest 987. That front bumper rules and the wheels look clean… needs an NR GT3 wing like mine 😂 Someday I want a new bumper Back to the SC… I’d like to see the compression numbers on that SC- cayman 987 * looked it up, they run 0.5bar which around 7psi, so I’ll guess that’s on a stock motor… I bet a RUF kit is 20k… OP, you should try if you think it’ll work, obviously it does… my apologies to you, I had no idea there was enough room…

POST 18Original post

Ruf has always nailed their style. No giant wings, subtle stuff sprinkled here and there, everything very tidy. Their 5-spoke wheels are iconic. They have a Cayman (front half) based supercar, too. The CTR3. Mama Mia… Rare Bird: The RUF CTR3 - Speedhunters While this car wasn’t my literal teenage poster car — I can’t recall actually having any posters after I graduated from my infatuation with Spider-Man — it certainly was a figurative one. The car looked like an alien and was capable of 236mph; I read some articles and scoured the internet for... www.speedhunters.com

POST 19Original post

TPC Racing made turbo kits when the Cayman first came out. Some members of the pre-Planet 9 (CaymanClub.net) used them. I just checked on the web and they're still around.

POST 20Original post

The whole "high-compression high-strung well-tuned n/a shouldn't be boosted" thing I used to think that, but I was proven wrong plenty. If one does not want to alter compression, a change of fuel type can make moot the issues with doing so.. or like they said just keep the boost reasonable and you can run gasoline.

POST 21Original post

I've driven a pretty good 4 cylinder electric setup that made 5psi, but it was not made up of inexpensive components. It was just as expensive as doing it the traditional way with belts. What it would do is get around the space constraints up front where the firewall is.

POST 23Original post

It was a BRZ with iirc a group funded setup. The car was not mine.
