Suggestion
I'm looking at a cost to change of around £10k from my Targa to an 05 C2S, which is quite tempting.

I'm sure you're right, but I wondered what the point in simply replacing the rear arches.

For the record I am being good and using Factory Porsche Spies Hecker paints.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This was the car when I picked it up
Then I started work on it..... :bandit: this will be stunning when I have finished. For the record I am being good and using Factory Porsche Spies Hecker paints. Work being carried out by a Ferrari, Lambo & Porsche app. repairer

i take it that you're converting this to a 996 C4S lookalike, eg facelift and wide bodied.
Why didn't you just buy a C4S? Surely the cost differential won't be that great (after taking into account 'upgrade' costs) and don't you think the car will be harder to sell on?
I'm sure you're right, but I wondered what the point in simply replacing the rear arches.
PS - I never knew that the rear section connected like that! I thought the roof and rear window section was one completed unit! Perhaps the Targa is different, due to the roof stiffening.
While i wish you well and hope it looks the part I really can't see that what you are doing can possibly be cheaper than just selling and buying a facelift? Would be interested to know the final costings. That said, hope it turns out well.
I am only facelifting the front and my reason for doing so is the pre-01 headlights look dull in comparison to the 02> HiD's.
This car was originally up for £20k, If 100% it would have been worth more IMO as mechanically it is like new with under 16k miles. I bid the car down to £17k leaving me £3k to spend on getting it painted.
I have sold all the parts I don't need off the car like bumper, lights etc for a sum of £800. The new wings, bumper, h/lights I managed to win on Ebay for only £700 the lot. I have had to buy £250 worth of minor parts from Porsche, the respray is being done by friends at £1000 leaving all the labour intensive strip and rebuild to me. Wheels cost only £150 to paint as I did most of the work there.
Total = under £18500
Not bad for a 996 with MY02-on looks, very low miles, high spec., FPSH and fresh paint job.
Went to see it on the way to work this morning, the main shell was painted last night, it is stunning, really high gloss. 8)
More pictures coming. [/b]
I see, so you haven't replaced the rear arches, just had them sanded down.
17k for a 2000 MY car with 16,000 miles (I take it this is on the original engine) is a good price, but is systematic of the overall market at the moment.
If you're a cash buyer (or trading up), there's significant bargains to be had.

However, I'm so annoyed with the attitude of PCGB, that I'm more than likely going to move away from the Porsche marque.
Mates, parents & girlfriend think I am nuts but who cares, it needed paint all over, I picked up all the 02> parts for a song so all is good.
I am a little worried that I have ruined a potential future classic but only a little.
Thank you for your thumbs up, gives me more confidence in what I am doing.
