This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just as a matter of interest i thought i'd raise this. When i changed my car recently i passed on all of the receipts for the work that i had had done during ownership, and asked for the same if available for the car i was buying (from an OPC). I was told that none of these receipts could be passed on either way because of the data protection act! They did eventually pass the info i'd requested on to me but i am fairly certain my documentation won't be passed on to the next purchaser. Seems a shame when most people would like to have this and i don't know if its just one OPC or all? Anyone else experience this? Julie

POST 2Original post

Hi, I have had the same experience, with selling a car to a dealer. I had lovingly kept every receipt for all work and parts and accesories bought for the car but was told that the garage could not accept these as they could not forward to a new owner, quoting data protection as the reason. It's a shame all this history can not be passed on... Jetbox

POST 3Original post

Generally speaking, independent dealers seem to pass any paperwork on, especially as it is in their interest to show that the car has been cared for. The fact that you leave the paperwork with the car (or even request that it be passed on) should surely be enough. If the Data Protection Act was an issue, the personal details could always be 'redacted'. If it's good enough for MPs then it should be good enough for OPCs!

POST 4Original post

This is really annoying and has been OPC policy for many years. I'm not really sure how you get round it. I guess the "Official Stamp" in the book is all you get, and that is reckoned to be enough.

POST 5Original post

I've had the same experience with the 3 pre owned cars I've bought from OPC at Newcastle

POST 6Original post

That's a real pity. I guess the only solution is to keep hold of the paperwork and let the new owner have it if they ask you directly. I got my 996 from a (non-porsche) main dealer and received all the paperwork. This was a huge plus, because there was one stamp missing in the book - for which I negotiated a discount - but found in the documentation bundle a receipt for a 'major' service with a comment under 'notes' at the bottom of the invoice which said that the service book had not been left in the car

POST 7Original post

This sounds like an excuse to allow them to avoid admitting when a car's history is missing. Exactly what personal details are revealed that you can't get by sending a fiver to DVLA? If a seller does not want anything passed on - simple - don't pass it to the dealer. Too many people hide behind acts of parliament that have good purpose and also have provision for sensible behaviour. (end of rant!)

POST 8Original post

After asking 3 different people in the Porsche dealer in Northern Ireland, I have finally found one that will give me a print out of all the work they have done to the car since new on my 2001 996 C4. I do have most of the receipts from when I purchased the car from a different garage but I would think that most prospective purchasers would like as much info as possible! David

POST 9Original post

I always keep copies of receipts etc. as you say your name, address, car details are readily available elsewhere anyway! So long as people are stupid enough to pass on nay debit or credit card information i dont see what the issue is. Plus if the previous owner/seller has given consent for the garage to pass on the paperwork with the car, they wouldn't be liable for anything? Incidently I've been trying to piece together as many docs as possible for my new 996 and went to OPC in Nottm- they said there isnt a network of information to be able to provide details of original purchase docs, service details etc. and I would have to go to each of the infdividual service dealers and original supplying dealer. Is this correct? Craig

POST 10Original post

I think if the previous owner has asked for this information to be passed on then it should be, nice to receive all the old service invoices etc, when i bought my car from a sports car specialist there was no other service history apart from the full service book, as the car had been serviced by one opc i faxed them the log book and they then posted me the fall service history printed out from when the car was new, it makes intresting reading and a good way to get a documented history. Phil

POST 11Original post

Bought mine from an Indy, so i have every original piece of paperwork since the car was new
