Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Reset ecu now all is fine 8)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Reset ecu now all is fine 8)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Comparing the drive of my 996 which I have only personally covered 800 miles in so far (the car itself is an MY00 with 15900 miles) to my MY02 Boxster I have noticed the 996 has a very slight flatspot.
It is there all the time, hot or cold and it is so early in the rev range, I would guess between 800 & 1100RPM
If you drive spirited it is hardly noticable but when driving Miss Daisy (round the town) it seems just ever so slightly hesitant, almost like it is going to stall.
Sitting in the car at tick over (which seems to be quite low 600ish RPM???) if I very slightly press the pedal down to try and up the idle to say 1000RPM there abouts, it doesn't die but it toys itself, in other words the idle bounces from 500 to 1500RPM, my question is, is this normal for the 996? :?
Happens regardless of load, can have AC, lights, wipers & everything else electric on but fault is still identical.
This IMO rules out the throttle body / idle control
I am leaning towards MAFS but unsure
Seems I was exagerating on the fluctuation, just checked it again, it toys from 800 to 1000RPM, doesn't do it when on initial choke (1st minute of warm up)
Hi
my yr 00 3.4 911 tickover is also slightly erratic but no so more than Boxster S I used to have. Around 8-900 rpm with air on, 6-700 off. When I first got the car it was more erratic & even missed at tickover but having done 1500 miles is now sweet. I would give the car a good blast & see if it does not settle down before wasting your dosh...
