Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I find that the oil check takes ages to run very often- typically it says its going to take 50+ minutes, but even after its been out on a reasonably decent run it takes 4 or 5 mins.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I find that the oil check takes ages to run very often- typically it says its going to take 50+ minutes, but even after its been out on a reasonably decent run it takes 4 or 5 mins. is this normal? any issues associated with keeping the ignition half way on for this length of time to run the check?

POST 2Original post

If it's cold and you're in the UK, then the oil reading should take no more than 30 seconds. You get the 50min+ if the engine is slightly warm, as it waits for the oil to cool slightly before reading.
