Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

disconnected the optical cord, and it stopped, and the pcm stayed on but with a error code of not being connected to the Amp/ CD changer, so i think my problem lies with the amp.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

PorscheEuro i tried to reboot, although it helped initally, the same problem came back a little while later.
Hi All,
Mid afternoon sunday, on the way to meet some friends, and my PCM2 unit starts to play up. Firstly there was some popping noise coming from the speakers, sort of a sound like the bass is distorting the speakers. Then at the lights, and loud crackle and pop, and no sound! (great im thinking, the PCM2 units gone to the headunits in the sky!)
After all this the unit does not come on when the power button is pushed, and when it does only the starting screen with porsche comes on. (looks nice, and got a lot of attention from the two chicks in a x5 next to me whilst stuck in traffic! :bandit:
Once had reached my destination, let eveything cool down, or just leave it and hope it works again! (that my technical thinking to eveything in life!), tries again after 5 mins, and all fine, full sound etc etc....but on thye way home no PCM2.... Before work this morning checked again, and all works fine! Im thinking amp here, as the unit is fine, im going to get it checked out on the weekend at a local car audio place which has worked on my other cars, but wanted to know if this had happened to anyone else? and if so, what was the outcome? :?:
when it goes faulty try pressing 148 to reboot pcm2
if not i have had the experience with amplifier's going faulty , these systems are fibre optics and once one unit goes faulty it shuts the lot down as you have noticed.
you may need to take it to dealer who have piwis to check faults logged or an independent who can read the pcm unit for faults..
If you have Bose, there is a software update to fix sporadic sound failure. I'm not sure that's your problem, but if you would like more details, drop me a PM with your email address. A diagnostic check should also give a clue as to what's going on.
Many thanks for coming back to me so quickly.
Unfortunatley Richard its not Bose, but thanks for the tip. PorscheEuro i tried to reboot, although it helped initally, the same problem came back a little while later. Although, last night when i parked up, i heard a strange ticking noise coming from the front, thought to myself "Now what!!!!!!!!!" :x :x
The noise was coming from the Amplifier. i could feel it when i placed my hand on the outer casing. disconnected the optical cord, and it stopped, and the pcm stayed on but with a error code of not being connected to the Amp/ CD changer, so i think my problem lies with the amp. Will go down to the OPC (West london.....Damn!) on saturday to get it confirmed. But now i have the question, will the amp be covered under warranty (old style)? i know PCM isnt, but surely the amp? :?: :?:
Thanks
Hi,
Unfortunately, no it's not covered under the old style warranty. It is covered under the new style warranty however.
Depending on if/when you're oging to renew, you might want to hold on!
Unless, of course, it's spotted during the 111 point check and will require fixing before they'll issue the warranty.
Cheers.
I had a feeling it wouldnt be, but worth asking i guess...
Will get it confirmed on saturday, then on to bay to find a replacement Amplifier.
Unfortuantley my renewal is due on in August 2009, so i cant wait that long....
thanks for your help!
