I did invest in an LED headlight to reduce the poor illumination issue and I used electrical tape to protect the paint on the car side.
Leading evidence: 'Use electrical tape' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use electrical tape' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. I was concerned about damaging things, but I used the photos here to assure myself it was possible.

I actually used those mosquitoe things you usually put behind windows, it works pretty well
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I want to de-snork my CS but im completely paranoid about snapping something... I've read the DIY arcticle but still find myself sligthly lost.. what would really help me out is a picture of the plastic piece that comes out (not the restrictor plate.. but that little fancy plastic grill ) laying face down... so i can clearly see what the pieces that hold the pins in look like .. and so i can get a perspective on the whole thing.. Can anyone help me out?
Also... is this what im supposed to do... pull the plastic grill 'inward' (away from the body) .. put a think screw driver down there to somehow push the clip?
Me too. When I inspect the side grille, I can't see the pins and I don't know where I can stick the screwdriver in and lift up the plastic to clear the pin.
go to page 13 of the thread 'air intake mod 13 rwhp gain ' and read the long explaination i wrote. this combined with the photo's in the desnork part 2 article should make it easier.
esaam is correct, there is a ton of info just waiting for you. Once you have read it all you will probably still be afraid of snapping or breaking something, I know I sure was.

I finally got around to doing it yesterday. I wanted to put a few (1700) miles on the car before I altered anything. I was concerned about damaging things, but I used the photos here to assure myself it was possible. I did invest in an LED headlight to reduce the poor illumination issue and I used electrical tape to protect the paint on the car side. The first and fourth pin were the most difficult for me. After that, it got easy. The only pin I broke was on the piece holding the restrictor plate and I didn't bother to reinstall that, not that it would have made much difference. It took several hours to get feeling back in my finger tips, though

While it seems 'fairly easy' to do I had the same fears. So I just had it done (along with some other mods at the same time) by a local Porsche race shop. They charged one hour labor plus the screen cost. It was well worth to me to pay someone so I didn't break anything or scratch the paint etc. Plus I just saved the hassle. Instead of just screening the intake I had them screen the entire inlet behind the grill for more of that race look. I did the screening on both sides buthere is a photo of the other side to show you what I had them do-
There are more pics of the other screens I had them do on the front and back at the 'Mesh Screens' thread if you want to take a look.

Ok. im im about to give up.. my non -mechnanic side is saying wth is going on here. What i need is pictures of the actuall grill piece while it is removed.. front and back.. and a closeup of the clips. I dont understand what im supposed to be pulling/pushing back to release the pin.... oh yeah.. and if someone could also take a snap shot of teh screw driver they used... so i know if mine is thin enough that would be great.
After several fa
iled attempts, I finally got the grill off. The screwdriver has to go between the two plastic pieces that form the grill. The only way to do that is to pull the outer grill opening until your fingers are numb. Slide the screwdriver between the tab and the fastener and pry the tab 'up'.
Be careful putting the grill back on. Make sure all the fasteners are located properly in the tabs. My grill is still off because I gave it 'one last push', which broke off the two bottom fasteners.
De-snork is removing the restrictor plate on the drivers side intake to let the engine breathe better and it also makes you car sound better. It is a very cool, easy, 'must-do' mod. Here is the thread that explains how to do it-

Johnny,
Attached is a photo that might help. Shown to the right is the painted part of the intake grille, to the left is the black plastic backingof the grille that has the clips. Note that these are glued together and should NOT be separated (like I wrongly did). You want to insert the screwdriver -between- the painted and black parts to release the clips. I've marked the clip positions with strips of blue tape.
hope that helps, Dave
Thanks DaveD for fixing my pic. Still not certain why my pic was thumbnail size.
BTW, I didn't notice any real difference driving it around town. Only when the rpm's got to 5 to 6K, did I notice that my CS sounded a little more 'angry' and felt a bit quicker. And it's free hp, except for the $2.40 my dealer (HBL) is charging for the new fasteners.
Here is a pic of mine... I actually used those mosquitoe things you usually put behind windows, it works pretty well

If only i were still inhigh school.. im sure i could create some sort of easy de-snorking tool in metal shop class. I wonder what the dealer actually uses to remove these.
As long as you don't have a habit of throwing lit cigarettes out the window you should be fine. However, you may find leaves and other debris in your airbox when you do a filter change.

I did mine.. w/o breaking any pins too.. only downside is there is a little scraping on the inside portion of the grill thing near one of the pins.. but nothing you can see unless you pull the grill away and really inspect it.. just an fyi after i scratched the grill i started putting tape on both the car and the grill right where the screw driver goes.. just to keep it from doing any dmg.
The result.... well if you ask me it sounds louder (it think it sounds alot louder, esp at high rpms..) and a little bit faster at higher rpms too,,, i would do the mod again...
