The steering wheel feels so nice i cannot imagine having a car without at least a carbon fibre steering wheel, makes a change from all that wood effect rubbish which is dated and makes the car look a mess.

Thanks again Wattie, it's difficult to change from carbon fibre, i will not be entirely happy with a newer car but no carbon fibre, i'd end up spending thousands to retro fit as it is so difficult to find a car with carbon fibre interior.

I have the ancient PCM in mine, but just use a portable unit to keep up to date with new roads etc.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
I need help on a couple of things.
I am thinking of upgrading my car or selling it for another one. 996 3.6 2002 Facelift.
Any advice on how / where to sell would be great.
I need some important options: Sat Nav and auto dimming mirrors.
I love my car and have had it for nearly 4 years, it has carbon fibre tiptronic steering wheel, gear, handbrake, rear centre console, ignition switch & emergency switch. I really do love these and gives the steering wheel a great feel.
If i sell i will buy second hand so will not get these but will get multi function steering, Bose, PCM and auto dimming mirrors.
If i upgrade can i retro fit auto dimming mirrors? What is required and how much? As much advice as possible please.
I will reluctantly fit a double din DVD/sat nav rather than PCM as for that year it is dated, with much better functions on new units. Any advice on which units are good.
I would also like advice on speaker upgrades and possibly a subwoofer which i believe can be fitted in the passenger footwell.
I know a company that can install professionally. Not the cheapest but they know what they are doing.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to All. :x
Also I have a 'valet' key, it's a small grey key, what does it do?
had it for years! Is this something to do with the glove box and
storage compartment behind the handbrake?
Hi and :welcome:
The valet key will not unlock the glove box or centre console storage if you've locked them separately with your main key: So you can secure any valuables when the car is being serviced / valet parked.
I also have the carbon fibre interior bits and it is one of the reasons I've decided not to upgrade this time - even though I'm well over 100,000 miles now: I reckon it will cost me at least £20k to upgrade to a 997 (can't see the point of getting a newer version of the same thing) and I would rather spend that money on keeping mine going tbh.
I have the ancient PCM in mine, but just use a portable unit to keep up to date with new roads etc. - PCM is fine for the motorways and trunk roads that don't change much.
Never heard of a sub-woofer in the footwell, but there was someone who built one to go behind the rear seats and it looked a really neat installation.
Not a good time to sell at the moment, but it is a good time to buy: So you will save more on the car you buy than you lose on the one you're selling IF you are upgrading to a newer / more expensive car.
PS. I'm sure you can get auto-dimming mirrors via Techquipment, so that shouldn't be a problem.

welcome to 911uk
Cant comment on details you require for your replacement but WRT selling I would suggest this website is a pretty good place to start!!

As Wattie said selling now aint going to be easy be ready to drop your trousers, but on the plus side be ready to get a good deal with your chosen replacement, just think differentials and not actuals.
Good Luck (interesting user name btw!!)
Sat Nav & Auto dimming mirrors
Thanks for the replies guys.
Key - sorted, had the car for over 3 years but never used this key. Not much use in this country as we dont really have valet parking and cannot imagine giving key to OPC for service, might think i'm being cheeky!!
I dont leave valuables in my car, my car is my valuable!
Would rather a device if the car was stolen that cut the engine and omit a gas so the crook is nicely asleep not far from where the car is stolen - waiting for good telling off!!! anyway!!!
Dimming mirrors great but will have to look at pricing, i can imagine this being quite expensive. My wife has this in her BMW and i really like it, would be more useful in my 996 as it is quite low and i find headlights very bright these days and in general others enjoy sitting as close as possible behind me at the lights! WIll have to weigh up cost v's usefullness.
The subwoofer in the footwell is a bazooka, quite small and fits nicely in the upper far end of the footwell so it is not too intrusive and does not seem to take up too much space of the passenger, not that i care too much as my wife is quite small and i never sit as a passenger in my car.
It's an easy install and not sure if i want one fitted behind the seats as this is easily seen through the back window.

(sorry to those that like it, this is my personal opinion)!!
