Question is....I thought replacement bushes weren't available, but I've seen some for sale and wondered if this was a viable alternative, rather than going to the expense of replacing the whole arms.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Morning all. The wife's Cabrio has started making the well-documented groaning noise from the front end. Its going in to PorscheTech in a couple of weeks for new discs/pads and the MoT, so we'll get the groan sorted too. Question is....I thought replacement bushes weren't available, but I've seen some for sale and wondered if this was a viable alternative, rather than going to the expense of replacing the whole arms. Anyone just changed the bushes? Pete

POST 2Original post

i did on my 964 - i used powerflex - however, its not my daily driver. I know hartech do recon'd arms for the 64's, maybe they do similar for 96's?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for that. Powerflex seem to do all the front bushes for a 996....I'll ask Martin at PorscheTech if he's fitted them previously. Pete

POST 4Original post

Hartech do the reconditioned arms for the 996 too. You have to send them your old arm back once you recieve the reconditioned arm I think. The problem with getting an Indy to do this as part of a suspension/arm overhall is that it's apparently very labour intensive to get the old bushes out hence why OPC just supply new arms. I may be wrong on this but I have read stories of hack saws, blow torches and all sorts just to get the old bushes out...

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So.....by the time we've paid labour charges for dismantling/reassembly (and associated butchery!) we'll probably pay the same as if we'd gone for recon arms in the first place.....food for thought. I suppose (as the car's a keeper) it would be worth thinking about future rebushing though.....would it be a simpler job next time round as the Powerflex ones aren't bonded to the metal? :dont know: Pete

POST 6Original post

yes, much simpler next time. Took me three hours in total to do my own front arms, using a press. Not to mention the benefits of powerflex - albeit a slightly firmer ride too.
