Has anyone desnorked a base Cayman?
I have not seen or read about this, but I am interested in the topic too...

This was discussed about 6 months ago in excrutiating detail. It's easy and "fun". Claims of 5 - 7 more HP
K-man S posted 2 detailed how-to articles with pictures on desnorking (a boxster then a cayman), if I remember correctly. They are not online as of today, but they'll probably appear soon as complete transfer from the old site to the new progresses....
We did this on the dyno for crocktoberfest, and picked up 1 hp to the wheels, so you can read that as a variation in the dyno run, or as a performance gain. Either way, it isn't significant enough to worry about it.
Yep, as Doc said the white car only gained 1HP on the dyno from this mod. There are, however, 3 differences that may explain the lower gain:
1) My car had stock intake and air filter when de-snorked, the white car already had the EVO intake installed.
2) My car had stock ECU programming, the white car already had GIAC ECU tuning applied before being desnorked
3) It was near 100 degrees the day of my dyno run, it was around 50 degrees the day of the CaymanW's run (white car).
So given these differences I think what can be said about this mod is the following:
1) It will achieve "some" HP gain, anywhere from 1hp to 13hp depending upon conditions and other modifications.
2) The sound will change as you will hear more intake sounds.
As was also said above this was covered in lots of detail in prior posts, just search for them, the articles will be back online shortly.
K-Man S, after seeing the results on the dyno -- would you go through the process again -- or just let it be?
I would go through it again because it is pretty easy to do and I figure the thing can't help performance.
Man, I sure hope this is a typo
You must be tired from the long weekend -- and very understandably so.....
No not a typo, what I meant was that the baffle/restrictor plate can't help performance. REMOVING the plate "can" but the debate is to "how much".
As the folks from Croctoberfest, I got CaymanW's out in just a few minutes.
Opps, misunderstood the earlier post ... lost the meaning of "thing".... now I am with you.
I think the desnork with the EVO intake gives the car a different sound. I have not tried "un-snorking" the car since I instaled the EVO, but I'm not apt to bother. I liken it to flipping the round air filter cover on old carbeurated Ford's and Chevy's and listenig to the engine sucking in the air. Teenager-tuning at its' height. If there is more power that comes with it.....great.
I just desnorked my CS today.. It took me about an hour not including the time to run to the Porsche dealer to buy new pins... Unclipping the trim without breaking a pin or two is very difficult... The cost of 4 pins was $2.75... Save yourself a lot of time by buying these prior to starting the procedure... Not sure I'm going to gain anything but I'm definately sure it won't hurt either...
