Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I took your advice and just installed the oil temp gauge from

This is why you will not find an Oil Temp guage that uses the ODB II port for 996, it would be too expensive to make for the limited demand..
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone utilized the OBD2 port to monitor both oil and water temperatures in real time with a gauge? And if so, what gauge setup did you utilize? Lastly, if you have a pic of where you mounted the gauge that would be great to share.
There may be something to show both, but I haven't found it yet. You can do it with a Durametric, but you are dealing with a computer.
A very good solution is to use
@Coopduc
digital oil temp gauge. This is what I follow and occasionally glance at the dash water temp gauge. Below is a link to his thread and a picture of it in my car.

The problem here is that using the OBD Port the Oil Temp is NOT availible through the OBD II protocol on the 996.....it is for the 997 but not for the 996...
On the 996 the OIl Temp is only available from the OBD II port via Porsche Protocol (ie PIWIS /Durametric ect..) and not the generic OBD II protocol..
