There is a level plug on the sump pan, but to check it the engine needs to be running, cold transmission fluid temp, and in drive.

Hi Guys Need your advice. Have been away for a while and not used the car. Drove the car and came back to see an oil stain on the drive. Don't think it's the RMS as that was replaced a couple of years ago. The oil wasn't the colour of engine oil so probably a gearbox seal weep. How do I check the gearbox oil level? Secondly, if it's a gearbox seal, what's the likely damage if the seal needs to be replaced? Thanks for your help. Shahid

IIRC you have a facelift Tiptronic. The transmissions can weep from various places: Transfer case housing gasket - a gearbox out and stripdown job. Oil pump on the input shaft - gearbox out, but no stripdown needed. Sump gasket - a cheap and easy fix. To check the level isn't easy. There is a level plug on the sump pan, but to check it the engine needs to be running, cold transmission fluid temp, and in drive.
