I fitted 6 pots all in for <£1500 with spacers and rear bias to match, but that isn't for "starters" you can get a pretty good setup for starters and a very reasonable price, certainly with better (more modern) turbo's.

i am running gt2rs intercoolers, k24 turbos, sachs 890nm clutch, big idp, obvious remap, 1oo cel exhaust, lwfl, etc etc, plus you MUST upgrade brakes, check suspension geo etc etc

I've only own my car for 2 weeks now but it has similar tuning Mods that your thinking of, exhaust with cats remapped and 890nm clutch and LWFW I've been told that car is running between 485-500hp.

So if you're running close to or the same level of modifications I'm after a before and after opinion, not just the good but the bad if there is any?

When I was looking I test drove a 2000 car with circa 500bhp.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It's still very early days for me and I'm still getting used to the driving style it demands as I have driven a few standard 996tt in past and mine does feel more highly strung and the clutch is very aggressive, but the performance is breath taking and more than enough for me at the moment.
I've been doing my research all things 966TT tuning and come to the conclusion that "if" I should decide to tune it will be to improve the power delivery rather than push for magic dyno numbers.
I understand the purest will cringe but I'm after balanced opinions from owners that have tuned there 996 turbo.
My main reason for looking is to try to improve on the already great power delivery, I think the car could benefit from some tweaks in the delivery, just my opinion though.
I'm looking at a compliment of mods, Milltek 100 cell system, RS inter-coolers and a remap, I have spoken with a host of tuners and listen to what they have to say, the main theme was the way the power was delivered, slightly quicker ramp up of boost to perk things up, obviously, the BHP numbers will increase to 480 to 500 hp dependent.
So if you're running close to or the same level of modifications I'm after a before and after opinion, not just the good but the bad if there is any?
I can't live with noisy exhaust systems and I'm not looking to future proof for more power just to allow the engine to breath a little easier, 100 cell cats as that's what most tuners have advised, RS inter-coolers is my idea as I prefer to over engineer when it comes to cooling and turbo cars.
I have searched this and other forums and founds snippets.
Car is a well maintained 2003, stock, manual.
When I was looking I test drove a 2000 car with circa 500bhp. It was very impressive. The car was in need of some TLC but the performance was so good I was nearly ready to do the work needed to get the performance.
In the end it was top money and that plus the work required meant it was slightly too rich for me. I finally bought a standard car and have found the 420bhp is enough in nearly all situations so have kept it as Porche intended.
So I think tuned or standard the 996t is a lot of performance. I would just be a bit worried that if I started doing the tuning game it would be a slippery slope into bankruptcy and divorce.
Mine is standard with the exception of a 1 bar remap and it's done me for the last four years, it's the first car I've owned which genuinely feels fast, I like the way it's still quiet, there's very little lag and it has a wide power band pulling hard from 2700 rpm to 6000rpm and below 2700rpm there is still enough go to get you into the warp factor zone quickly.
If I feel the need for proper speed I get the GSXR out LOL

Get some Billet k16's. You wont lose any of the instant power but you will get buckets more of it and the torque is breathtaking, i was making 700ft/lbs almost instantly, no K24 based car will match them. I've got the AMS ones which may well be up for sale soon, but be careful though, you get what you pay for.
Someone asking about tuning a 996tt?
Ragpickerupper, this ones for you
He also knows a thing or two about how to hide the cost from...... :thewife:

Not sure if this will help but I will list what I have done.
RS intercoolers
K16/26 turbos
Forge DVs
5 bar fuel pressure regulator
Piper cross filter
Turbosmart waste gate actuators (fully adjustable and in my opinion brilliant)
200cel milteck
Fearnsport map pulling 1.4 bar of boost.
And it properly goes like stink, I have to say I find the standard turbo boring fast but predictable, this is very much hands on now which is exactly what I wanted.
Matt at Fearnsport thinks it's one of the quickest (with early spool) that he has mapped.
There are without doubt better turbochargers around but these work for me. No idea of the power nor interested it was all about how it's drives.. And it's mad.... Not had any down sides apart from you have to hold the steering wheel tighter! Can still potter around town if you want too.
Cheers..

Ummm lots of food for thought. is the car a keeper and what is your budget. Plus what is your end goal? Remember to do this stuff properly it will cost BIG time in most cases???? and you will not get it all back if you sell up......
i am running gt2rs intercoolers, k24 turbos, sachs 890nm clutch, big idp, obvious remap, 1oo cel exhaust, lwfl, etc etc, plus you MUST upgrade brakes, check suspension geo etc etc
its not about the dyno but how the power is delivered, .9 bar in first, 1,2 for 2nd and third 1.6 for 4th close to max in 5th and 2bar in 6th,,,timing and additional programming of the ecu etc etc....car pulls all the way
any one can look at dyno figures, but imho its the dirveabilty and how the power is delivered that counts.
now imagine a 458 ferrari trying to play at circa 130mph and you get my drift, he was totally embarrassed, another aston martin and lamb,,,,eat my dust!!!
however none of this is cheap, circa £20+k gets you started on a proper journey
ps my car is only good for 640 bhp and more and you are looking at gearbox mods etc
happy for a chat

lol maybe but i aint joshing.........any one can crank up the power with a simple remap. however, cooling, engine management, heads, injectors, timing, brakes, clutch, suspension, putting the power down and how it is delivered, geo etc, ,, , , , all needed for a starter package and the sky is the limit from there
of course you can have a £2k remap from DMS or similar, but these are as far as you can go without other modifications.....
it can be an endless pit and i speak from experience!!!! but this is what i have decided and continue on...a progressive programme of works as and when monies permit. my one requirement is "turn key" reliability?????
There are lots of threads on tuning a 6T, just have a look around and you will find some inspiration.
There are equally as many ways to go about it as there are opinions but one thing is for sure, the first step is an exhaust and remap. I'm sure this is enough for many people.
Wrt exhausts, I've had a 200cel milltek and a 100 cel Kline. I've got to say that the kline is IMO far superior. The noise is much more like I believe it should be. The fact it is 100 Cel also makes a big difference (surprisingly so). Plus with the 100 cel you can hear the turbos spinning which always makes me smile!
So my advice if you want to dip your toe in the tuning malarkey is to get a 100 cel exhaust of your choice (buy it once and buy it right - you will need 100 cel if you want to tune further in the future), and get it mapped by someone who knows what they are doing. Do not buy an off the shelf map. A bespoke map is often cheaper and ultimately better.
If you want to tune further it will cost you money. You can plough your own furrow which will be cheaper or you can pay for a company to give you a full package. I nearly went down this route but for my purposes I thought it wisest to try to do it myself. After all, that's where the fun is isn't it!?
unless you have opened the engine or changed head studs, all you are talking is bolt-ons and a remap. There are plenty of good packages out there that will get well under 20k and that's if you pay an indie to fit it.
how you choose to spend your cash is up to you i suppose.
The biggest investment i made was the syvecs and completely remapped my traction control and had many safety features not present on the DME.
I fitted 6 pots all in for <£1500 with spacers and rear bias to match, but that isn't for "starters" you can get a pretty good setup for starters and a very reasonable price, certainly with better (more modern) turbo's.
E8, tell me about the syvecs unit. What does it do, what extra safety features does it have and why is it the best money you've spent?
I'm always on the hunt for something else to spend some brass on!
