When unlocking my 996 I program the key fob seat position all the way back and down for easy entry, then use the M1 button to snug up and forward my seat to a comfortable driving position.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all,
picked up a 2004 C4S on Friday and I am pretty stoked. First Porsche experience. Previous owner didn't have the owners manual, so I am coming to all of your great minds for help. I tried searching but I could not find the answer. Randomly (have not found a pattern), when I unlock the car with the fob, the drivers seat will raise all the way up, and the backrest will reckline all the way down. I have saved my seat position multiple times (with reverse engaged) and it works just fine when recalling M1. I have yet to discover why the random movement from time to time. Has anyone been able to pinpoint what triggers it? Thanks.
Have you saved your preferred seat position to both the key fob and the door sill M1, M2, etc? When unlocking my 996 I program the key fob seat position all the way back and down for easy entry, then use the M1 button to snug up and forward my seat to a comfortable driving position. /X3
Congrats on the new ride and welcome! Based on what you said sounds like previous owner saved seat settings to the key (you can save settings to both a memory button AND to each main key). If you want to reset it, do the same process that you did to save a seat setting to M1/2 (ignition on, shifter in reverse for right mirror drop in reverse, etc.) except hold down the M button and hit the button with the key icon (should be forward of M1). This will save that seat position to the key itself. When you unlock using the fob, the seat settings will move to that position.
If you are still having issues, suggest reading codes to see if any seat or mirror motors have failed. Mine (2003 c4s) had a bad right mirror motor and would cause erratic behavior. Replacing the window motor fixed the issue.
Also, if you need an owners manual, can get one here:

Interesting, I did save my seat position on all 3 memory banks but no real luck. I also came out to a dead battery today.. which may indicate a fault like you were saying at the window motors or something else. I also left the car unlocked all night and I think I read somewhere that leaving it unlocked drains batteries.
I am so surprised to not be able to find a PDF copy of the manual. I guess Porsche nows they can still make money off of a 21 yr old car.
Curious if you ever figured out the issue? FWIW I have left the car both unlocked and locked / alarmed for a period of 10 days recently and no issue with the battery, so seems something else is draining it in your case (the alarm system does got to “sleep” after 5 or so days so need to wake it up before the key fob unlock button will work).
Yup, have yet to come across something anything for the car that I wasn’t surprised at the expense. Best PDF I have found is here:

- not great but can work in a pinch I suppose.
i am trying to figure out this same issue. When I unlock my car with the key, the driver seat slides all the way back and down and the seatbacks reclined. I want this "comfort entry" behavior disabled as it's unnecessary. I can obviously save the driving positions to the key, 1, and 2 buttons, and recall, them but can't "fix" the entry behavior.
