Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I took it to Reap Automotive Design and he fitted guards red for the centre rev counter and white dials each side.
Leading evidence: 'Install guards red' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Suggestion
Once it's off the car disassembly is pretty problem free only area of risk really is lifting the needles off the dials, easiest way I found us using a fork to be able to lift evenly to not snap them off, also take a picture where they were before removing them, when switched off some needles sit just below the 0 mark, and you want to get them back as close to how they were as you can

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Re:- Changing the dials
I have just bought a set of coloured (yellow) dials for my 996.2 has anyone got any tips , do's or don't when removing the old dials and putting the new ones in
Thanks
Sorry for not directly answering your question but I thought this would help. I have a 996.2 and it had white dials but the lighting was never 100% as the letters never seamed quite right at night. Turns out during the cost cutting days of Porsche at the time they simply fixed white stickers over the black dials. I took it to Reap Automotive Design and he fitted guards red for the centre rev counter and white dials each side. He knows his stuff and although I can't remember the cost I recall it was reasonable.
I would strongly suggest you get a garage or a firm that has done these before to do the job for you ..
Its very easy to damage the gauges when removing the indicator needles or in deed put the needles back slightly off causing inaccurate readings .
It's not a job i would attempt at work .
A replacement instrument cluster is circa £2500 .
I did this. I bought some 996 GT2 silver dials and swapped them into my mileage cluster. Was about 7 years ago now, but it wasn't difficult.
Just take your time, check you tube for tips and buy some plastic trim removers.
I've just bought a yellow tacho face, so I'll be putting that in when I get home.
Re:- Changing the dials
Not a difficult job to disassemble just do it somewhere well lit and don't rush, main area's you have to be delicate are when you remove the cluster from the car, be careful to lift straight up and gently to avoid breaking any of the plastic clips and be gentle releasing the plugs in the back, they like to snap parts of themselves off.
