BTW for those wondering what sent me to the hospital , we don't really know , but after 3 days of testing and a personality change after 3 days I was found to have extremely high Carbon Dioxide in my blood....( my Catalytic Convertor was stopped up ) So all the Unconsciousness, Intubation, Trech, and Ventilation for 6 weeks was to clear the Carbon Dioxide and rejuvenate the lungs......It must have worked because even though a have a Home Oxygen Generator, a Portable Oxygen Generator and an Avap Machine to sleep with, my SAT's are in the 90's during the day with no Oxygen...I just need to regain my strength...and be careful of by breathing technique and SAT's...

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone wondering why Skip..the inventor of the ultimate AOS IS NOT AVAILABLE is becaus3 he is in the hospital. I have been recovering from losing a bumper far battle with a parked trailer that won hands down so now I’m in my 3rd month of post concussion syndrome but I figur3 God doesnt make mistakes just gets our attention for whatever reason..,usually. Cause we don’t listen. I hope you guys and gals pray for us. ive been replacing the alternator in my C4S and finally got it in. I found that removing the diaphragm from the throttle body and lowering the engine gives more room if you have large hands. II lost one of the screws that Skip had included in the kit to hold thr brake booster vacuum line which were the licking type so I contacted Skip to find out where he got his. I was able to find a replacement only regular pan head. It works fine..holds well and will pr3vent Vacuum leaks…fingers crossed. Now the trouble. I had had some 02 sensor issues and after the accident the car sat since September so today I decided to move the car so roofers can get to work. Here is what happened. I had bought a cheaper MAF sensor but forgot that I did and after getting the alternator in and putting my like new drive belt on zi just cranked her up and man…she sounded awful. Misfires all over the place (see pic2. Holy smokes live data looks really off.its my understanding that cat sensors voltage will show some voltage readings that suggest normal function with one reading flat and steady(b4 cat) then one dipping(after catgut I got flat on both side..pic3-5…multiple cylinders misfiring and really screwy voltage readings…what I think Im reading are failing o2 sensors…like sll of them. I did not initialize this cheaper MAF SENSOR b4 first usage and that contributed to rough running. After I did(key on…wait 60second…then crank car.The car ran little smoother but as warmup bad O2 sensors voltage sent car into shock. I just need to figure out which ones are going..it may be time for both banks to get new sensors. I think this live data proves that. I included some pics of what is going on Any feedback appreciated i also get some weeping at my oil filter so I need to complete replacing the o-rings in the screw on oil filter. I got mybims done in 2011 so think it’s time. I got thr lnengeneering update kit just need to do sll 4…especially the one when th4 screw on is taken out. Im gonna post pics and if anyone disagrees that I need oxygen sensors speak your mind. Lot of drama but I think Im on thr right path. Just too much information can be a bad thing. Live data lots of zero voltage when should have at least 1.5 or so voltage More of the same praying for full recovery for Skip. Im having trouble adding picture…will try again and less at a time may work Rod out…I hope my catalytic converters survive they are expensive suckers. I may just do all new oxygen sensors and be done with it…cant decide…chime in please

POST 3Original post

I'm not sure what you're saying. Do you mind explaining? Were you or he in an accident? Can you separate his situation from the car problems? Of course we are concerned about him and hope for the best for both of you. Thanks for posting.

Skip, if you're in the hospital or sick, best wishes for a speedy recovery!

AI to the rescue: SKip is currently in the hospital, which explains his absence, as noted by a member of a forum. The person sharing the news discusses their own recovery from a concussion after an accident with a parked trailer. They are also working on repairs for their C4S vehicle, including replacing the alternator and addressing some issues with O2 sensors and a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. After installing a cheaper MAF sensor without proper initialization, the car exhibited numerous misfires and abnormal voltage readings, indicating possible O2 sensor failures. They express concern about the performance of their catalytic converters and are considering replacing all O2 sensors to resolve the issues. Additionally, they mention a need to replace O-ring seals on their oil filter due to some weeping. The member seeks feedback on their findings and offers well wishes for Skip's recovery while navigating their car troubles. They plan to share pictures of the vehicle's condition but are experiencing difficulties with the upload. speedy and full recovery to Skip!

Yes…I wanted the community to know what was up with Skip. I also wanted to get some feedback on if my understanding of the Durametric readings are leading me in the right direction. My Oxygen sensors need updating. I may have gottten lucky with a aftermarket MAF SENSOR…just do the right procedures. Thanks everyone who responded (even if jokingly(is that a word?) As far as the car problems part of my post..help me make sense of what Durametric is telling me through the live data…I wish that company would come out with a manual…this means that etc. Here is food for thought…Japanese cars are overbuilt…ie think Tundra trucks. German cars are simple by design…which do you like to work on? diyselfers…the member with the concussion…they tell me it makes me ramble…ill sign off. Night

Hi all, I am Skips daughter, Jessie. I was trying to check his emails and business messages and just wanted to say THANK YOU all for the messages and posts wishing him well!! It truly means a lot. Unfortunately he is far from out of the woods, still in ICU. Please keep good thoughts coming for him. He definitely needs them. I will try to give you guys another update hopefully when we have better news. Thank you.

POST 39Original post

Thanks for the update Jessie. Wishing for the best and hoping he may be home by Christmas.

POST 40Original post

Thanks Jessie. We are hoping for the best. Your Dad is very generous with his Porsche knowledge and has been a big help to many of us with our hobbies, interests and misadventures. In my case he has a real tolerance for my admitted lack of experience and I have appreciated his help greatly . Good vibes and positive thoughts are known to improve health and I know you can pass that along for us while he recuperates. Let's get him all tuned up and back on track soon. Best wishes to you both. Cheers.

POST 41Original post

Thanks for the update Jessie. Make sure they are feeding him in the ICU. Nutrition is very important and often overlooked. Fingers crossed!

POST 42Original post

Appreciate the update Jessie . Hopefully everything goes well moving forward.

Thank you for the update Jessie. Your Dad is one of the best. If he lived anywhere near me, I would make him one of my closest friends. I am already a customer. His generosity with his time and intellect has been meaningful to many of us here. God bless him. I will say a prayer for him in church on Sunday.

POST 46Original post

Thanks, Jessie for the update on your dad. I'm fairly new to the forum, but have benefitted greatly from his knowledge and experience. There are lots of people who are pulling for your dad and hoping for a speedy recovery!

POST 48Original post

@Porschetech3 , thanks for the update Jessie! Praying for a quick recovery.

POST 49Original post

I hope he has a speedy and good recovery. I was wondering so I know what to expect. Not trying to be insensitive, but I placed an order and wondering if I need to expect to wait for it or if this wasnt a 1-man operation and someones still operating the business to get orders out. I just need to know so I can hold off on a bunch of maintenance since I need the part.

I would give Skip a little cushion. If you need one asap you can contact LN who sells the UAOS to see what they have in their inventory.

Quotes source post: 20370968

I ordered my UAOS through LN and they were awesome at getting it out. For reasons that escape me I didn't order it as the Track version. I rang up LN after talking with Skip about it and ordered the parts to make it the Track version. The deal was smooth.

I bought the line that goes from the UAOS can to the oil filler tube. LN carries it as a kit with the tube which I dont need as im running the 9ii solution. Doubt LN will sell me just the hose without the tube, even though they should stock this option. I am giving some cushion, a simple question that is valid to be asked.

POST 59Original post

Quotes source post: 20372937

Yea easy you went with the 997 oil filler stock tube option and the hose. I have the 9ii solution for the oil filler tube so I just need the hose which I purchased from Skip directly (the part im waiting on for all my maintenance for winter).

POST 73Original post

Quotes source post: 20385744

Is this true?! I certainly hope so. Skip is such a valuable member of the community and seems like a solid human in general. I ordered the 986 version for my boxster directly from him in november(they don't seem to sell it for the boxster anywhere else) and his son messaged me in December letting me know about Skips dire condition but haven't heard anything since and plan on pulling my motor for a refresh before the autoX season. I really hope he's doing better! Cheers all and here's to hoping the new year brings good news for Skip and his family!

POST 74Original post

Here comes the update. Skip Jr. here. First, dad is improving. Slowly. Some days are really good. We are not sure how much longer he will be there. He has been in a step down unit/rehab since new year started. He is very much wanting to get home. These things happen in there own time, as we all have or will experience. So, thank you all for the well wishes. They have been great to see. Second, for the UAOS orders and questions. I have to decided to hold off and put on backorder anything except 996/997/986/987 kits and parts. I will be handling all of these myself. I can bring any questions to him that you have with anything. I can get replacement parts, track drains, or such inventory for you as well. I unfortunately do not have the deep knowledge he does on these systems and specifics on all the models needed to assemble full custom kits or assist with install details. I am knowledgeable, but I am not him. We will do all we can to stay active here, and assist as much as we can. I know everyone is hoping for the best. The Drs are happy with his progress. All signs look good for a "full" recovery. I will be keeping a check as much as I can. As dad would say ...Cheers...Skip!

POST 86Original post

Hi guys, I'm scheduled to be. Discharged from Rehab on Monday then I will stay at my Son's house for 2 weeks then return home with Home Health Nursing coming several times a week..... Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes, the man upstairs definitely heard them and sent me back down to earth 3 times in the last 2 months..... I drove myself to the emergency room and parked the Porsche across three parking spaces with one wheel one the curb.....was feeling bad, dizzy, and hard to breath....that's that last thing I remember untill I came to 6 weeks later....my Son tells me the first 3 days I was acting weird/strange...chasing/ flirting with the nurses and I took a **** in the corner on the emergency ,,... They were going to send me home after 3 days not really finding anything wrong, my Son told them to keep looking that something was definitely wrong.....So they ended up finding my Carbon Dioxide in my blood was way high....( Lungs not working properly to process and keep a proper PH balance) So they put me in a medically induced coma with a breathing tube down my neck...left me on that as long as they could several weeks, was not getting any better. Said I would die unless they cut a hole in my neck to put in a trach and hook to a ventilator......So for 6 weeks in was unconcious not breathing on my own....then when I finally showed improvement they woke me up, but I could not talk or walk .. In all 5 medical facilities I have been in...went to the Golden Gates 3 times....A lot of the stuff that happened has no explanation but the Man Upstairs has something to do with it...something else for me to do .... As far as UAOS, yes we are backlogged really rest bad... My Son has been shipping out some and answering questions / emails but I can talk now and next week be able to be at my computer to organize things.....please be patient.. Again thanks to all of you for helping me get back....

Glad you have recovered. Sounds like a very scary ordeal. Certainly, it would be best to know what caused your medical emergency, but sometimes the docs can't figure it out.

Damn, what an adventure you went on. Glad you were able to get yourself to the hospital in time. really happy to hear about the miraculous turn around and that your son advocated for you in the hospital. My wife was an ER nurse and often had to push back against the docs who for many reasons miss things, hurry too much and dont think outside the box, and not take people seriously enough. She has saved people's lives on several occasions going with her gut and telling the doc they are wrong and to dig deeper. My Dad had a scare a couple years back with a brain bleed and being stuck on an island during a record storm keeping life flight grounded. I'm sorry you had to experience some of our medical system BS, but glad your spirits are high, that you gave some nurses a likely giggle while you were there and looking forward to getting my AOS in time for this AutoX season. Cheers and looking forward to hearing back when status's can be provided on orders. And still considering the UIDS since my buddy loves his and is having amazing oil pressure at the track.

Skip, Welcome back to the madness. I'm glad we'll have you for a little while longer. Make sure to take the time you need to stay as healthy as you can. And yes, I know you've heard this a million times and i know you don't need to hear this from me. Just glad you're back. -Paul

Welcome back Skip (and I'm not just referring to this forum)! Here's to hoping for a continuing and full recovery!

POST 95Original post

Thanks guys......I never knew you could loose all your strength in just 7 weeks of been tied to a bed......the brain still thinks you can just get up and walk....but soon as you try you find out the legs have turned to jellyfish....Even with this rehab I can only walk 400 feet with a walker, and 8 steps up the stairs.. My goals 1 walk a mile 2 climb a flight of stairs 3 get in and out of a Porsche

POST 96Original post

Welcome back Skip and glad to see you're in good spirits! Take it easy - you lose muscle mass and strength faster than you think and it feels like the hospital bed sucks some of that out of you too. I'd wish you a speedy recovery but rather recovery at your own pace. Glad to see your name pop up on here again.

Weird? This is how I constantly behaved before I got married. Wouldn't change it for the world, man I had some good times... in all seriousness, it's good to have you back. I am not really quite sure how to describe it but it's been a bit somber around here without you.

Whoa, 7 weeks is a long time. Back in 2009 at 42 I spent two weeks in ICU. It took a few days before I could walk down the hall again. Now at my age it would take MUCH longer. Hope youre doing much better soon!

POST 117Original post

Dang, Skip, thats quite the ordeal. Glad to see youre back, we were all worried about you.

POST 118Original post

Sally is saying she can’t wait to take you for a ride! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

POST 119Original post

Happy to hear you are out of hospital and on the road to recovery. Sometimes in general, a medical "fix" hurts more than the original complaint. Just my observation. After 5 knee surgeries (meaning the 1st 4 were failures) I find I simply can not do some things with that left knee. I had to compromise, so I looked for a Tiptronic 996 C4S. And, TBH, I still enjoy the car, and fiddle in manual mode at times, works fine, my knee thanks me. Goals are great, tailor to reality and everything will be easier. Cheers. YMMV

POST 120Original post

Great to have you back! Wishing you a quick recovery!

Great to hear Skip! I'm sure the struggle will make you stronger, that Porsche will be waiting patiently for you. Wishing you all the best from NZ

so glad to hear from you Skip! recovery can be long - take it one day at at time

POST 125Original post

Such a relief to read your messages. Thank you for sharing your journey along the way and best wishes for a full recovery. -KJ

POST 126Original post

Wow, what a scary situation! I'm glad to hear you came through it. Nothing compared to what you're going through but I had a knee injury/surgery a few months ago & now know how quickly your muscles degrade. Take it slow & take care of yourself. I hope you won't have to spend too much time fighting with your insurance company. Hospitals, one of the few things more expensive than Porsches.

Skip, if you're monitoring this thread, how you doing? I've messaged ya here and responded to an email we have pertaining to my order in November for a UAOS but haven't heard back in a few weeks. I'd love an update on the UAOS, but also the long silence has me concerned your prognosis may have changed. Hope you're still on track for a healthy recovery and if so, appreciate any updates on if I'll have my AOS in time for my first race of the season March 21st. Anyone else heard from Skip or received any updates on their orders? I want to be respectful and held off on posting but the radio silence after some initial dialogue with Skip and Jr has me scratching my head. Thanks regarding any info that can be shared.

orders have been getting shipped out, a couple of us had been waiting a while but now have them Im sure yours will not be far away

POST 134Original post

Quotes source post: 20470059

Most all the backlogged 996 orders have been shipped out now.......the new orders on 996 I just reciently got this week will be couple weeks to ship as I am now focused on building 997.1 kits... What is the actual name/email of the order?? Sometimes I have a hard time connecting the screen names/handles to the real names/email names...

POST 135Original post

@Kdon I went back and looked, you are Kyle with the 986.1 Boxster..... It has already been started and will be shipped out on Monday

POST 136Original post

Quotes source post: 20470427

First, glad to hear you're still continuing to get better. I only know what O2 sats are because my wife is an ER nurse and during covid she was educating me on pulmonary and respiratory diseases. That is odd you still dont know the source, wonder if you're exposed to anything at work that is low level and slowly contributing over time. Second, thank you so so much for the update. I figured it might be chaos with the backlog and was just going to give yall a quick call but couldnt find a number and our email and Rennlist message chain was silent for a bit, so this was a last ditch effort since I feared my order might have fallen through the cracks. Appologies on the unorthodox approach and thank you for your kind and quick reply Skip.

POST 137Original post

@Kdon yes your Boxster kit was started before I went into the Hospital on Dec. 2.....My Son and Grandson were trying to help while I was tied to a bed unconscious with a Trach and Ventilator , but they only know how to build 996 kits....,So the Boxsters and Caymans are being done this weekend .... I was backlogged about 40+ orders.. Most have been very very patient.
