OPC for the GT2 chimney, I used the GT3 RS duct which lines up with the chimey very well.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im considering putting the RS style vents in my front bumper from a mainly cosmetic point if Im honest, I dont have the 3rd rad and have no plans to either. However if I can use them for a practical reason I would i.e. channelling air through them as I understand it could reduce front lift albit I take with a pich of salt and maybe at very high speeds. Im wondering if its worth opening up front aperture on the bumper and direct air up through the vents. Anyone looked into this? Looks like I would need the bumper scoop for centre section and the duct from a Gt2. GT2 duct. 996 575 141 30 Center Air Duct 996 575 325 30

POST 2Original post

Details on how I did mine here, you could do pretty much the same, just don't fit the radiator. MC

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was just going through your project thread as I was sure you had done. The chimney seems the expensive piece.

POST 4Original post

I have done this, albeit with a centre rad. The reduction of front lift is a thing, at over circa 90mph using the bumper vent. if you are running a centre rad in the standard configuration, as per all 996 excluding GT3 RS, the rad is angled in such a way that the air exits under the car. With the vent you flip the rad brackets change the angle, and exit the air upwards. GT2 duct assists in directing the air, however it will require cutting as will the side rad ducts to enable you to get the bumper back on. - Although if your not running a rad you may not have this problem. On a non GT3 996 you have the same issue with side rads, they also duct to under the car, I have also made modification here to again reduce front end lift.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the feeback, where did you guys get your Gt2 chimney duct and did toy use the Gt2 vent or RS vents. I'm looking at a replica Gt3 mk1 bumper now. So should be able to mod that before fitting. I don't have air con working on mine and never missed it so I might end up doing the same as MC with removing one condenser.

POST 6Original post

OPC for the GT2 chimney, I used the GT3 RS duct which lines up with the chimey very well. - I have a template somewhere if you require. I have been running one condensor for a few years, a/c performance is still more than adequate in the UK even on the hottest of days.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, already have the template and printed out and ready to go for the vents. I'll phone OPC and see what the cost is on the chimney. Im really keen but need to start finding cash for body repairs. If Im not running the extra rad will I need to make or get any extra brackets for hanging it off?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So seems its £160 for the Gt3 chimney from OPC. I have a centre rad scoop already. Looking at the way it all bolt together Id need the rad brackets and bolts to make sure everything locates properly, would you guys say thats right or do you reckon it could be done without?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I've got all the necessary ducts and frame to do this but I was wondering if anyone knew what bolts I need to attach the frame to the car? I don't have the car at the moment so can't offer it up. Looks like the frame attaches to the body with 4 bolts?

POST 10Original post

You need 4 bolts and two spacers. The top and bottom bolts are different lengths, top are longer and utilise the spacers that pass through the duct. I can post an image if it helps

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If you could. Are these OEM bolts/spacers?

POST 12Original post

Yes, OEM bolts and spacers although you could probably source something similar from elsewhere. The spacers are about 2" long metal tubes that the bolts pass through and create the offset to make the radiator tilt. Pip
