Suggestion

As much as I was torn between a GT3 and a real '73 lightweight my Champagne tastes could not quite reach that level of Porkerness on my beer money, so currently gracing the driveway of my Lizard lair is a very clean early silver 2.5 944.

Suggestion

Great choice Jeremy, must admit that I have been looking at the S6 Avant myself to replace the trusty old Scorpio Estate family barge, has to be the 6 as the 4 is just not quite big enough, but it HAS to be either Nogaro or Speed Yellow, nothing else will do.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Excellent: engine in the correct place, you see! Just wait to see what appears in my car collection tomorrow - all will be revealed here! Edited to say: bugger, you deleted your cover-blowing post that makes this nonsense. Pah. >> Edited by jeremyc on Thursday 24th October 10:28

POST 3Original post

Opps I cocked that up just now I'll try again You cheeky monkeys!! especially you Jeremy C, if I wanted a plastic car I would have to push, I'd have bought a TVR!!!!! As much as I was torn between a GT3 and a real '73 lightweight my Champagne tastes could not quite reach that level of Porkerness on my beer money, so currently gracing the driveway of my Lizard lair is a very clean early silver 2.5 944. Ive never been a great 944 fan- I just love driving 911s, but Ive always liked the shape of the 944. The price for this one was most certainly 'right'and with its later S2 wheels looks exactly the same as a later Turbo. Maybe the rides the other Sunday in Jeremy C's Cerbie & Chaos's Tuscan got my brain craving a RWD wagon to slide my way through winter! Its hardly a rocket ship with just over 160bhp but early 944s only weighted 1180kg so its still a 0-60 in 7 point something seconds and good for over 130mph. Its as clean as a 2 yr old 'normal' car, has FSH and pretty much all that ever goes wrong has just been done. My good Journo mate the esteemed Dr Alex may well do a little article on this shoe string Porker so I will say no more for now....

POST 5Original post

Ther ya go Jeremy Ive sorthed my little error out now! i dont thenk anyone noticed..... So what might be added to your hareem?? As you are on the Porsche section rather than the kit car one- opps I ment TVR, dont tell me you are thinking of some German metal in ya garage to go alongside the Plastic fantastic..... Its gona cost ya a lot if it has Cerbie matching thrust and a Porker badge.

POST 6Original post

Close, very close. As close to being a Porker as is possible without being one.

POST 8Original post

Not the new VW Toe-rag thats based on the Porker Cayenne chilie pepper??? hmm close to a Porsche but not one err VW/Porsche 914 of the 1970's?? err or some thing like an older 3 series E30 M3 BMW?? ie similar to a 944 in respect or runing gear??

POST 10Original post

Alex, I love the car mate. Seriously though, congratulations mate. I too really like the shape of the 944. I am such a sad bastard, if I had the place to store them, and money to waste , I would buy so many cars just for the sake of looking at them from time to time. Sad git me

POST 14Original post

Anyway back to iguana: looking forward to hearing from you on your experiences with the camper van power plant.

POST 15Original post

Thats a Porsche engine in the 944 (half a 928 V8 actually) NOT the same as the 924.

POST 17Original post

You cheeky Monkey, although AJlinten is right it isnt the old Audi 100 & VW LT van engine like the original 2 litre 924 it is half a 928 V8. The engine however is probabally why I was never a great fan of the 944. Yes it is very well balanced and quick in S2 form, while the Turbos with 220 & later 250bhp as standard and an easy 300bhp with a little wastegate modification are a lot quicker than all normilay aspirated 911s untill the 3.6 996 BUT its the sound an feel that used to put me off. The balancer shafts may smooth the big four but the sound unlike a 911 is never inspiring, whereas similar capacity & bhp engines with more than four cylinders ie the Audi 5 pot like the 2.3 in my old Coupe GT or the BMW six or even a TVR S V6 had much more aural satisfaction. Still Ive always got the yowl of my bike rnning a race can as it hits 13,00RPM to keep my happy on the noise front I guess.... Ps JeremyC, an RS2- sweet is it in Maritime Blue?. I had one as a runbout for a bit with a hybrid turbo so had a bit more then the stock 315bhp done 160,000 miles felt like new and still was a hard driven Ferrari 355 eater..side ny side at over 160 I dont think he could belive it mind you my labrador wasnt happy....

POST 18Original post

RS Blue, Nogaro Blue - whatever you want to call it: THAT blue. Oh, and I didn't mention the 993T brake upgrade either, did I? Excited, moi?

POST 19Original post

993 brake upgrade? are you sure, standard they used a variety of Porsche brakebits with (I think) 965 3.6 Turbo/964RS front calipers. Mind you Even though the standard brakes were very powerful the RS2 is a heavy car and you can feel that if you brake from a daft speed.

POST 20Original post

Standard stoppers were 968 kit I think, Audi offered an upgrade to 993T fronts (larger & cross drilled) and cross drilled rears. Front rotors and calipers only just fit inside the 17" Porker Cup wheels. Mind you, not absolutely sure I've got all of this Porker terminology off pat yet.

POST 21Original post

I think they are known as 'Big Reds', as opposed to the 'Little Rusty Browns' that are std on my 944.

POST 22Original post

Great choice Jeremy, must admit that I have been looking at the S6 Avant myself to replace the trusty old Scorpio Estate family barge, has to be the 6 as the 4 is just not quite big enough, but it HAS to be either Nogaro or Speed Yellow, nothing else will do. The burning question is whether to go for the 230bhp UK 5 cylinder turbo in RHD or to plump for LHD and get the 4.2 V8 plus with 320bhp. What do you think guys?

POST 23Original post

Colin I'm thinking RS6 estate with 450bhp.......

POST 24Original post

You can get an A6 Avant quattro with the 4.2 engine as a UK RHD car. Their is one for sale near me. It will be on Autotraders website

POST 25Original post

It would be downright rude to settle for anything less than 300bhp... >> Edited by jeremyc on Thursday 24th October 23:50

POST 26Original post

Mr C - just looking at your slurpworthy Cerbera (magnificent paint job, BTW). Just one thing and highly trivial so apologies but those yellow centres on the wheels? Will be fascinated to hear your thoughts on the relative merits of both motors.

POST 27Original post

And I think you may have backed into the wall outside your country mansion.

POST 28Original post

Gold Mr. Restrictor, gold! It all works very well, although I can't take any credit for it: the Crystal Topaz bodywork pearlesces gold in the sun, so together with the (gold-ish) magnolia interior everything else is colour coordinated: gold badges, wheel centres, monster AP calipers (yes, really). Only alternative is the black TVR centre caps, but there's no other black externally on the car apart from the rubber bands around the wheels.

POST 29Original post

I wish, oh how I wish! Jolly nice of the local squire to donate the use of his driveway for my photo session don't you think (even though he won't have known much about it ).

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What is it? My guess is a gold 924 with brown pinstripe seats, fluffy dice and a 'No Fear' sticker in the rear hatch
