I am happy to be mistaken as I want these installed ASAP and not wait another month or so for the replacements, but I can't go to a shop and risk paying for a failed installation.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was very excited to get this yesterday. I ordered the kit from a Porsche dealer and provided both my VIN and the exact model of my car. The base part number for the 996 PSE is 44 200 21 , but I understand there are different variants for narrow-body and wide-body cars. The part numbers printed on the PSE kit mufflers I received are 996.111.984. 04 and 996.111.985. 04 , which appear to correspond to the narrow-body C2/C4. Based on my research, the muffler part numbers for the wide-body C4S/Turbo should be 996.111.984. 05 and 996.111.985. 05 . The dealer has already come back to me twice stating that these are the correct mufflers for the C4S, although they are now reaching out to Porsche directly for clarification. I am happy to be mistaken as I want these installed ASAP and not wait another month or so for the replacements, but I can't go to a shop and risk paying for a failed installation. Does anyone here have a 996 C4S with PSE ? If so, do you happen to have purchase records or photos of your PSE mufflers that you could check? Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

Those look like they are correct for the factory XLF C4S. When I had mine off last year I didnt get any close up pictures of the part #s to verify.

POST 3Original post

Where did you get them and how much did you pay for them. I need to replace mine.

POST 4Original post

Looks great; also curious how long it took to source them? Are you going to run the wiring for the button also?

POST 5Original post

They are the correct ones. The xxx.04 vs xxx.05 indicates a change that is of no relevance regarding the p/n usage in vehicle type and/or model variant since the 9 digit main part numbers are the same.

Thanks @cboxell . According to my online research, they may look exactly the same but there are "packaging" differences and therefore fitment can be different between the C2/C4 and C4S versions. Most sites advertise a 4- to 6-week timeframe. I got mine a couple days short of the 4th week. Was told it could go longer due to customs delays, Most likely I'll just do the mufflers unless I can find a decent price for the complete retrofit. I may be wrong but I'm reading modifications might be required to fit it in the C4S. There is a C4S variant per the Porsche catalog (see below) so I'd rather have the exact one than pay extra for the uncertainty. https://assets-v2.porsche.com/ca/-/m...ce=chatgpt.com

POST 7Original post

I see what you mean and understand your point. According to the picture of the parts catalogue on your 2002 C4S you'd want xxx.02, not xxx.05 as you mentioned in your 1st post. Having said that, they will fit without modifications.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20446457

Believe the xxx.05 superseded xxx.02, but either should work. My concern is that the Porsche dealer sent me xxx.04 and still thinks it will fit, even though their own catalog lists xxx.04 for C2/C4 only, with no C4S noted. Btw, when you say they will fit without modifications are you referring to xxx.02 and xxx.05 or xxx.04? Would definitely like to get confirmation from owners of C4S with PSE.

POST 9Original post

True, 05 is the latest but the xxx.02 is for C4S up to and incl. MY 03, whereas xxx.05 is for C4S MY04 and later 996 C4S. That's what it reads in the remark column. I expect all xxx.02-xxx.05 to fit all 996.2. Any differences between them concern something other than fitment, is my thinking. Let's hope an 4S owner chimes in.

POST 10Original post

All I can say is that 996 C4S mufflers fit my 996 C2 perfectly.

Thanks again. Also received confirmation from the dealer I purchased the PSE kit from that xxx.04 should fit my C4S so I have now went ahead and brought it today to my Porsche dealer for installation. Thanks for the feedback! I worried too much.

Awesome let us know how it goes, how much are they charging for install?

POST 13Original post

Any particular reason you didnt just get Fisters?

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I decided to go with just the mufflers rather than the full retrofit since the retrofit labor is typically more than 3x the cost of a muffler-only install. Most shops estimate 24 hours for the muffler install, though it can take longer if hardware is corroded. In my case, several components needed replacement due to corrosion, which increased my muffler install cost to 2.5x due to additional replacement parts. Im not quoting my actual spend here, but Im happy to share details later if it would be helpful. I did consider Fisters, but I personally prefer the PSE sound. Ive had PSE-equipped cars before, so that influenced my decision. Since I was already investing the time and expense, I chose the option that best matched what I was looking for.

Closing the loop on this — the PSE kit mufflers (996.111.984.04 and 996.111.985.04) fit the 996 C4S with no issues. I am unable to upload a video due to size limits so here’s an Instagram link to a short cold start video: LINK -> 996 C4S PSE cold start

I just saw the instagram video You wouldnt happen to be related to Ed McMahon would you?

POST 18Original post

I really want to install PSE on my 04 Turbo Cab. I want to do the whole kit. Can anyone confirm part #s and a place to source Suncoast has a set but doesnt mention Turbo. https:/www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU996PSE.html I would installed the Meisterwerk Racing new 996 exhaust tomorrow if it was valved/switched. I have heard it in person and its amazing.

Was it because of my friend's awesome reaction to the start up vid? LOL. As I mentioned in the OP, the base part number for the 996 PSE kit is 44 200 21 . The mufflers that came with the kit had part numbers 996.111.984.04 and 996.111.985.04 for the left and right. I did provide my C4S VIN when I ordered. So the way it works is (at least based on my experience): 1. You order the 996 kit 2. Sites like Suncoast have options for left and right switch, some don't and you need to buy it separately. 3. You provide your VIN in the order comments 4. Porsche validates the VIN and provide you the applicable parts Suncoast and Delaware Porsche Parts are the ones I mainly looked into. You'll have to see which pricing works for you, but Delaware parts is cheaper and has no taxes, but shipping is HIGH. But you can save further if you can pick up. In terms of installation cost , I took my car to my Porsche dealership as I had doubts about the part numbers which, as it turned out, I didn't need to worry about. - Cost will vary by dealer and car condition - Muffler-only install time estimates are 2-4 hours - Full PSE retrofit costs around 3-4x of muffler-only install (so for me it wasn't worth it as I want the PSE to be always on) - I had an unexpected additional cost of $1.4K for parts due to corrosion, with the left/right muffler supports being the most expensive. If you can purchase those parts yourself beforehand then you can save a lot on the replacement parts. Always-on PSE is awesome, at least IMO. PSE on the C4S sounds incredible and has zero highway drone whatsoever.

POST 20Original post

Thank you for that detailed explanation. My apologies if I missed the earlier comment..

POST 21Original post

You cannot use 996 Carerra mufflers of any sort on 996 Turbo. If you want a switchable exhaust the only one I have seen is by Top Gear in the UK.
