Reported cause
When this happened to me, after a new battery, alternator, some wiring (!) turned out to be loose wire in the ignition barrel that was live so was constantly draining the battery.
Leading evidence: 'loose wire in the ignition barrel' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'loose wire in the ignition barrel' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend aftermarket and far more up' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

there are conversion boxes which are used for the MOST.

Suggestion
if no OCD i would recommend an aftermarket and far more up to date head unit ..
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My C4S battery is going flat after just a week, I normally get 3 weeks before it's gone.
So I carried out a drain check and it appears the PCM unit is drawing 2.62 amps so I'm guessing this is the cause.
Is the PCM unit known for any faults to cause this? ....
Thanks ðŸ‘
yes it is but 2.62 amps would flatten the battery in 2 days .. probably less !
i suspect you haven't left the meter on long enough .. it takes about 40 mins until the lambda sensor burn off has finished and everything has shut down .. i suspect at that point you will have around 1 amp discharge .
lambda burn off = 1 amp .
Confirm by pulling the fuses for the pcm whilst testing to get a drop down to about 60 milliamps .. 0.06 on a meter on amps setting .. 0.1 = 100 milliamps .
Once proven then it's up to you where you go .. if no OCD i would recommend an aftermarket and far more up to date head unit .. if not then the PCM needs to be sent off for repair .
I tested after recharging the battery and have not started the car for things to have booted up as such.
When I tested after pulling the PCM fuse I did get a reading of 0.06 amps as you say.
I had looked at new head units a while back but due to the fibre optic set up nobody would touch it with a barge pole, but I am considering PCCM+ now it's been released.
Why wouldn't they touch it with a barge pole? It's a simple (but expensive) interface that connects between the head unit and the amp...
Did you test the alternator voltage at the battery? Bad Y cables are pretty common on these cars and my battery used to die within a week before I replaced it.
It's worth getting the battery checked out, I was convinced my one year old battery couldn't be the problem. Searched the car for an old tracker. Logged the current on the car over a could days and couldn't see anything excessive.
Borrowed a battery meter from a friend and found it to be in less than ideal condition, looks as though it's taking charge but doesn't hold much.
Last time I'm buying a Lion battery, since got a Bosch's S5 and everything runs perfect, should have started with the Bosch. I have a 13 year old in my old Passat still going strong.

Worth checking.
You measured over 2 amps which when you pulled the fuse for the PCM dropped to 60 milliamps ..
To me that's proved the PCM is the issue .
Fibre optic or not it's not a hard job to replace these with an aftermarket head unit .. there are conversion boxes which are used for the MOST.
A radio installation company should have no issues and they normally travel to you . .. we have used a few over the years but attention to detail means we tend to do it in house these days .
To be fair though this is not my area of expertise so i bow to any comments about which head unit to use .
They just kept telling me that due to the fibre optics they didn't want to touch it. This was about 2 yrs ago. I'm guessing now that they just didn't want it bother with it for what ever reason, business must have been good.
I'm not to fussed as I'm most likely going to install the new PCCM+ unit.
Yes alternator voltage is spot on ðŸ‘
Thanks 👌
Hey Roddy, I had the same issue with my car in Aberdeenshire, couldn't find anyone who would touch it with fibre optics which I found odd to say the least. After a couple of years putting up with the old head unit I popped down to the Manchester area a few weeks ago and had a new head unit fitted c/w speaker refresh, sounds great and was a fair price, also a good excuse to go for a :drive:
