I ended up using the elastic from an ugly pair of boxers I didn’t want lol.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

I have a 2008 987 Boxster and I’ve been having a problem where whenever I close the top, a section of the roof on the passenger side closes with the bottom edge on the wrong side of the plastic trim. It only started doing it this most recent summer. I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and what you did to fix it. It seems like maybe some of the cabling inside the top may have lost the proper amount of tension. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Scott Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

POST 2Original post

It's a well known wear problem with the convertible tops. There are a few good youtube videos that cover the repair. -RobT Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

POST 3Original post

Extremely common. The above video shows a how to for a few dollars if you are handy. if you want an inde shop to do the swap of the wire bit that fails it’s around 3hrs and $80ish for the part Video method extremely cost effective. They all fail.

POST 4Original post

Might as well do both sides while you are doing it. If only one side is "off" now, it won't be long before the other side has the same problem. Very simple fix with a needle and thread + $2 of elastic band.

POST 5Original post

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. Looks like I have a little project for the weekend. I’m an experienced leather worker and pretty comfortable with a needle and thread. I can envision over engineering something reinforced with a little leather to avoid wear. I’ll take a closer look at the mechanics this weekend. Thanks, scott 2008 Boxster S • RS-60 Spyder

POST 6Original post

I had this same problem, went to the store to get an elastic band and no one had any. Everyone was making masks with them, so no elastic could be found. I ended up using the elastic from an ugly pair of boxers I didn’t want lol. Worked like a charm! I attached the elastic bands to the remaining flaps of fabric with a staple gun.
