Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

I'd be wary of a used 997 that had the oil changed less often, say 2 years as a max IMO.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thinking of purchasing a 2007 997. Other than a PPI, what else should I really be looking for. There are some service records, and I do understand the IMS issues. Thanks, Mark

POST 2Original post

A Porsche dealer can print out an overrev report showing you if the engine has ever exceeded the redline, by how much, for how long, and how long ago that was... Unless it's a tiptronic, in which case you need not worry about that. I'd also verify there's no accident history or previous bodywork. A thorough PPI should take care of all of this. The IMS is not a concern. In your climate I'd be more worried about internal engine damage from inadequate warm-up time before pushing it hard. That and rust from salted roads in the winter.

POST 3Original post

I'd also want to see oil changes having been done at least once a year, even if the mileage was low, and more often if used at the track, but if you don't have the full service history then you can't know that. I'd be wary of a used 997 that had the oil changed less often, say 2 years as a max IMO.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Hunt3R, it will only be driven in the warm months, garage is heated and air condition. I agree on the oil, it would be nice if I could find one with all the records and still have the old oil and filter to analyze. Best, Mark
