Suggestion

I don't have anything particularly enlightening but I would check the underside panels on a lift to see if any thing was loose there too.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi all, On my 2007 CS I have a few noises I'm trying to eradicate. Let's start with the engine vibration at high revs (above 4000) It came up all of a sudden after being parked for a few days (the car gets so little use this is typical). It sounds like it is just over my right shoulder while driving, and beneath the cover. I took off the carpeted cover and drove with it and found the noise is still present. After removing the hard engine cover I revved the engine a couple times and did not hear the noise. When I had done this prior I would hear it. So it leads me to the hard engine cover, but there's nothing to it?? The screws were definitely torqued down. One thing I do notice is the foam lining is not bouncing back when compressed. It seems to be from age and heat. Not sure if this could be related. A couple of hoses have made a permanent depression in the foam. Any thoughts?

POST 2Original post

Maybe my post was rambling too much... Anyone have a loud and unusual noise above 4000 rpm? Sounds like something is shaking loose!

POST 3Original post

Still struggling to ID this noise. It is very consistent over 4000 rpm and gets louder as the revs increase. It sounds like a reed vibrating, a very plastic sound. Any thoughts? My next attempt will be to place some foam between the hard cover and engine to see if it is related to the decaying foam on the underside of the cover.

POST 4Original post

I don't have anything particularly enlightening but I would check the underside panels on a lift to see if any thing was loose there too. Good luck.

POST 5Original post

That's a great idea. I will get under there tomorrow to check for any loose pieces. Thanks,

POST 6Original post

I found the expanded steel mesh on either side of the exhaust to be loose. Double sided tape used to install this is decayed. So I removed them and the noise is sill there. Looks like I've got to keep removing parts until I find the culprit. those things were pretty loose but apparently not making much noise. Good news is I have more reason to drive.

POST 7Original post

I have something that may be related, but my noise is very specific. Sometimes, when I accelerate hard and rev over 5,500 RPM I hear a vibration of some sort that goes away as I pass thru this RPM. I've driven other CS's and not heard this but I can't seem to find anything to pin it on. Neither could my mechanic. Is your noise like this or does it continue at all RPMs?

POST 8Original post

I vaguly recall the rear hatch cover can be noisy in some Caymans . There's a fix but I do not recall what it is and if it requires a pro or of it is a DIY job. Get someone to drive the car while you ride in the passenger seat and are free to focus on listen for the source of the noise. Shove a soccer ball in the area under the hatch and with a broom push against the ball to apply pressure to the rear hatch and act as a vibration dampener as the car is going down the road and the noise is present.

POST 9Original post

Check around the rear brake light plastic. When it vibrates it sounds like it is coming from the engine. If you look back you can see it vibrate when you hear it

POST 10Original post

Mine continues at all rpm above ~4200. It gets louder with higher revs but it does not go away unless I back off below 4000.

POST 11Original post

I have ruled out the rear light covers, but discovered one is missing the little clip the 90 deg. knob turns into. What the heck do you call those things? Will be removing more pieces....

POST 12Original post

Did you ever figure out where this noise was coming from

I’m having a similar issue with my 2008 cayman
