Hi all,
I know there are many post on This topic and I have spent all afternoon reading through them. However, one questions I have I couldn’t find an answer too.
my passenger front radiator fan has stopped working, resulting in the drive side going crazy often.
now I have read that the fans go faulty and it’s pretty common. I have had a look today and when I put 12v straight to the fan it works. My question is would this be the case if it is a faulty fan? Or could it be something else. Like the radiator fan
ECU
? Do they go faulty? I’m a bit stuck as to whether I could order a new fan or not. Could it be a relay?
Any help from those in the know would be great.
thanks
Simon
Simon - the year/model/engine of your 987 would be useful info to have since
Porsche
changed the design of the fans with the introduction of the
987.2
in 2009. You're asking lots of questions giving us almost no information to go on.
What does "resulting in the drive side going crazy often" mean? Depending on your model/year/temperatures and the accessories like air-conditioning that are functional some of the 958 cars only run one fan until the other one is "needed" - that's normal.. Is this happening with the engine running? What sort of ambient temperature? What sort of indicated engine temperature?
Hello, thanks for the reply. Let me try and provide some more details.
my car is a 2007, 2.7
987.1
the passenger fan doesn’t seem to come on anytime. (That I have seen). The drivers fan come once the car is warm and seems to come on, on a very fast setting. It appears to come on for 20 seconds, off for 20 seconds and so on.
Is seems to come on whether the AC is on or off, always at a super fast speed.
It was about -1 outside temp today when this was happening.
the fan only comes on when the engine is on, and the indicated temp never goes over the 12 o’clock point indicating it’s at running temp
Thanks
Simon
Simon - is this left hand drive or right hand drive?
Hi, this is a right hand drive car. Thanks
IIRC - there is a relay for the fans, perhaps more than one, and I seem to recall hearing of them failing. Since I have a 2009 - I have no resource material to tell you where the relay(s) are - starting in 2009 they changed the fan setup with a controller on the starboard side one controlling both fans.
I suspect if you asked on ********.com in the 987/
981
forum - giving details like the car being right-hand-drive, and year/model someone there will have an answer for you.
Thank you for the advice. I’ll hoping Renlist and make a post. Thanks again.
Same thing happened to me. I noticed it at drive throughs, the one fan echo would go so loud. First I tested when car was cold. Start and turn on AC. only driver fan worked. 2) Off car, and put hand behind bumper to manually spin the fan. 3) start car, turn on AC and use a stick to manually turn fan. Fan then started spinning and has been good since. Issue is dirt. mud, leaves can get up in there and jam up fan. The manual spinning will loosen that up, and then fan will clean itself out once going again.
When I bought my '06 CS in 2017, it has a job functioning left side fan. My research indicates that there is a resistor located on the can that is usually the cause of failure. Apparently, you can change the resistor, but I recall the part is hard to find and I ended up buying a used fan unit from a parts vendor.
Thanks for the input, I have however put a 12v feed to the fan and it works, so its not jammed
Hello, thanks for the input. Do you know if your fan worked when you put a 12v feed directly to it? mine does so I'm questioning if its the fan or the little
ECU
that controls the front fan that has a fault.
